Got a pics that I have been meaning to put up here for a while. First two pics are of the latch for the forward hatch. The next pic is of the latch that holds the engine box and the seat together.

The last pic is of a product that I recently found that is really good for sanding between coats of epoxy or varnish.

Great work so far. Hope the weather holds out for you so you can get a splash in. Its always a bummer when your ready to splash and mother nature has a different idea.

Yea, what he^^^^^^^^^^said.

I do have a request though, could you take a couple of pics of your bow hatch as well? My hatch is pretty much crapola and it is going to need to be replaced, and those things are way spendy. Would like to see how it is made up and fits on the boat if you don't mind.

You are doing a great job, keep it up man.

Made the bow latch on a mill. And as for some more pics of the bow hatch I'll try to get a few more pics of that up in the next few days.

well for lack of a better term i got the stern deck in place. Decided to reinforce the deck with a sheet of 3/8 plywood. Did this because later i plan to put a couple of down riggers back there and well I just like making thing stronger. Anyways screwed the plywood down then cut a new piece of aluminum out so that i relocate the gas fill and bilge vents. Also replaced the front trim on the stern deck because the origanal got in the way of the engine box.

Also permently installed the cabin doors and caulked in the floor. Then i riped up the carpeting that was on top of the cabin and replaced it with a sheet of rubber pad and mounted the fish finder head.

Amazing work. That transducer install is slick. I need to make a dash like that as well.

Hey Brig

FYI

You can copy the IMG code from photo bucket and paste it into your post. It will put the pic directly in your post and NOT the HTTP Link

Here's how...

Re: 1973 18' starcraft starchief V

I got my shack down cruise in this weekend and almost everything went flawlessly. The one real problem that i had was that the I either have a leak or air still in my trim pump.

I switch the prop that came with the boat to a Michigan wheel stainless steel #993024. Running that prop with two people and the outdrive in the full down position the boat topped out at 32MPH @ 4100RPM.

I do have what i would call a weep around the transom area. But considering that i spent about 4 1/2 hours on the water and it rained pretty hard for about 5 mins and I turn on the bilge pump a whole three times for a total run time of probably 20 seconds, I dont think Ill worry to much about it.

Sorry guys I didnt bring the camera but I promise Ill get some pics of it up and running.

Didnt take very long to figure out what happened to power trim.

Had this hose made and the frist time that i use it and the fitting blew off. needless to say i am not very happy.

Ok the pics of the forward hatch that i promised are finally here. First thing i did was to add a support between the windsheld and the hatch. Two reasons one to make the deck stronger and also to have a good place to attach the hinge.

002-2.jpg

Next added some 1/2" plywood to the back side of the hatch cover to reinforce the cover and so i could add some weather strip to seal it up

I really like the way that you have done that hatch up. My hatch cover is all dented up and I have been trying to come up with a new one but after seeing this I may just try to redo mine and see how it comes out. You have done a very nice job on that.

I'm in the same boat with my hatch and will have to do something like this. I want to be able to step on it and not worry about falling through..Lookin good Briggs. Especially the stern.;)

Sooooo surprised you didn't get much abuse from the angry mob for splashing without us!:(

Yes. I had no doubt you'd do a good job modifying them.
What fasteners did you use to secure the 1/2" ply under the hatch? Looks like truss heads on the underside.
