This frist pic is just of the aluminum angle that I am using at the base of my floor. I cut away the horizontal part of the angle that overlaps the fore and aft angle. Then the pic after that is just what it looks like in place.

Next just have a few pics of the progress on the instrument pannel, which is proving to more difficult then I thought it would be. This very much only ruffed out! Also, there is a pic of where the stearing cable comes through the side that i had to enlarge to allow me to move the instrument pannel to where i wanted. Again it is just ruffed out for the time being and I plan on cleaning it up and putting some sort of bezal around the whole thing.

Well it has been one year since i have purchased this boat. Today got the holes cut for the instrument pannel and got all the wood ready for paint tomorrow. I place all the gauges and switches in place to give all you guys a preview of what it is going to look like. Also took a pic of the door stops for the doors behind the bulkhead and the aluminum angle that all been fit and installed.

Well I finally got around to taking pics of the last project. It is based on an 18' saint lawrence river skiff. This project if i remember right took three years of weekends to finish. The oar locks, the eyes on the bow and stern and the caps on the stems are made out of brass and home made. The rest of the boat is made out of ash, red cedar, cherry, mahogany. Looking to sell the boat so if anyone is interested get a hold of me, like to get 5,000.

Got the front seats mounted today. The pedestals are todd 30" that we cut 3 1/2" off and mounted a some garlick seat mounts. The seats are off a John deere gator that I bought off E-bay.

Hey brig, maybe I'm not seeing the photo quite right but are you going to be able to reach the steering wheel from where you are sitting at the helm there? I think I can see one of the console side brackets, seems like a log way off.

That skiff is totally awesome. Those brass hand forged fittings are just sweet!

That is exactly what I was thinking after looking at the pics Jas, seems like a long way off.

You are doing an awesome job on that boat, looking good.

the pic is just deceiving both of you. Also, keep in mind that i have about three inches that i can adjust the seat from the position that it is in and i can move the steering shaft out i think another inch and have from where i plan on mounting it if need be.

The brass fittings are not forged they are machined

Brig, that skiff is one fine piece of work.:)

What length is it? Can you paddle it like a canoe as well, or is it way easier to row it?

I thought the seats looked a bit far back too, but would probably be perfect for somebody tall like myself.

I prefer to stand while driving most of the time anyway, so I would like some extra room at the helm. If those seats slide you should be all set for whatever you need like you said.

Nice work, looking forward to your progress.

It is an eighteen foot boat. Never tried to paddle it cant imagine that would work out very well. It rows very well and is pretty fast with only moderate power applied to it.

What more can I say about the skiff exept its beautiful. The time and effort you put into it shows.
How did you finish the hull? Epoxy with some kind of UV protection?

Seats in the Chief look good. Lots of room at the helm.

The outside and inside of the Hull is covered in glass then varished over the top of that for UV protection. the decks are just varished.

Re: 1973 18' starcraft starchief V

Just so all you guys who thought the seat was mounted to far away from the steering wheel can sleep at night I decided to take a couple of pics. Put a tape measure from the steering wheel to the front edge of the seat in the full forward position and there is 6" clearence. With the seat in furthest back position it would be about 13" clearence.

Also, a couple of pics of the front doors mounted and painted.

Thanks for clearing that up :D

You should have had someone take your picture seated there. That would have REALLY cleared it up :p:p
