They would love it! I just met this group by chance. I bought the new trailer for the Glastron from one of them. I wasn't even going to go but I am glad I did. Beautiful lake, great bunch of people all crazy about old boats. The food was most excellent too. Put it on your calendar for next year!

Floor is finished and laminated in. Rented a transom template. Installed it and cut out the thru hull. Then measured and installed stern tie downs.

Me, my compressor and dump gun. Bought some USC indigo blue and some neutral gel to try out on hull. Top is flake, color tbd. Not sure how to make a stencil to reshoot the glastron "arrow" accent.

I have had to take some time off from the Glastron project for work and home maintenance. I have made some progress. I ordered a 1 lb bag of sapphire blue .015 metal flake for the topside.

I was surfing craigslist and found an insane deal on donor boat with a 5.0, 4 barrel mercruiser engine that runs and looks great! 1989 Bayliner Arriva in good shape with beautiful trailer for $500!!! Guy just wanted it gone. I was fixing to pay $300 just for the y pipe. Feeling guilty about gutting a perfect hull but the 305 is exactly what I want.

Sphelps you are welcome anytime. You need to get over here and go for a ride in the Mustang before it gets cold.

I have been working on the donor boat outdrive. Its getting a new exhaust bellows, shift cable and water pump. It would be great to get a ride or 2 in on it before it gets taken apart. Its all torn down. Need to do water pump and bellows. Waiting on cable.

I bought the SEI kit for the water pump. If the outdrive has problems I plan on using their drives for replacement. The parts look to be good quality, hopefully the impeller is.

So a little progress update. I have been working on the donor boat. It needs to be ready for winter storage and I want to know the condition of the drive system to get an idea of what it needs when moving into the Glastron. Hopefully I can sell the trailer to recoupe some of the money from it's purchase, with that in mind I have put some time into it too.

I put new lights and wiring on the trailer. Purchased some used tires to replace the badly dry rotted ones that came with it. I ran in to a bit of a problem working on the wheel bearings. I bought some bearing buddies to replace the wheel caps. This trailer had a zirk fitting on the end of the axle for lubrication to the rear bearing. The zirk sticks out so far it was pressing on the outer portion of the cap. After some puzzling about how to solve this, I came up with what I think is a good solution. I removed the spring that pushes inward on the outer wall of the cap. It fit into a groove on the inside so I moved it and now it pushes outward. It effectively makes it into a dust cap, but now it fits over the zirk fitting. I checked very carefully that nothing was rubbing and the seal is still intact.

I removed the outdrive and rebuilt the water pump. I also replaced the drive shaft seal in the upper half of the unit.
Found a bad exhaust bellows and rotted shift cable. These were both replaced. There was a bit of gear oil in the ujoint bellows, so I took the outdrive to my mechanic for inspection. As soon as it gets back, should be ready for water! I had replaced alpha drive impellers several times in the past, but I have never replaced entire casing or shift cable. I hope I have shift cable set right. Glad to be learning about these systems. I have to do my own work, only way I can afford this hobby!

Back to work!!! Some progress on the hull. I removed all the wood mounting strips for the screws that hold the top cap onto the hull. They were actually in pretty good shape considering they are 50 years old. I cut all new pressure treated replacements. There are so many holes around the edge of the hull I am gong to have to add a backing strip of fiberglass all around the inside edge of the hull. I ground down the inner edges and where the rivets came through the hull for the emblems. The next step is to lay a strip of glass along the edge. Then grind out the front of each hole and fill with peanut butter.
