So a little progress update. I have been working on the donor boat. It needs to be ready for winter storage and I want to know the condition of the drive system to get an idea of what it needs when moving into the Glastron. Hopefully I can sell the trailer to recoupe some of the money from it's purchase, with that in mind I have put some time into it too.
I put new lights and wiring on the trailer. Purchased some used tires to replace the badly dry rotted ones that came with it. I ran in to a bit of a problem working on the wheel bearings. I bought some bearing buddies to replace the wheel caps. This trailer had a zirk fitting on the end of the axle for lubrication to the rear bearing. The zirk sticks out so far it was pressing on the outer portion of the cap. After some puzzling about how to solve this, I came up with what I think is a good solution. I removed the spring that pushes inward on the outer wall of the cap. It fit into a groove on the inside so I moved it and now it pushes outward. It effectively makes it into a dust cap, but now it fits over the zirk fitting. I checked very carefully that nothing was rubbing and the seal is still intact.
I removed the outdrive and rebuilt the water pump. I also replaced the drive shaft seal in the upper half of the unit.
Found a bad exhaust bellows and rotted shift cable. These were both replaced. There was a bit of gear oil in the ujoint bellows, so I took the outdrive to my mechanic for inspection. As soon as it gets back, should be ready for water! I had replaced alpha drive impellers several times in the past, but I have never replaced entire casing or shift cable. I hope I have shift cable set right. Glad to be learning about these systems. I have to do my own work, only way I can afford this hobby!
