I wondered if that's what it was, I can see why it takes less room to install than rack.

I love your rebuild... Gives me hope for the project ahead of me.

I just bought a project(about two months ago) I will be working on for the next several months. Pics. to be uploaded when I get started. We got a little one on the way, later in the month, so she will be a priority for the next little while.

Right now just getting the mechanicals working.

Love the boat!

Those switches look like giant reevits
Isn't it great when electrical just WORKS? :D
Much cleaner and neater than my wiring:

nice work JO, those switches definately belong there instead of the others. Guess now we have to start harassing you about a SPLASH for the islander...lol

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

OK, so I am going to show some major ignorance here and am entirely open to being flamed if need be.

So I was picking up some extra Christmas lights yesterday at Menards and was eyeballing all their stuff and I see this (and others like it)...

So I am wondering right...

Can any of you guys describe to me what the difference is between something like this ^^^^ and an LED "marine" rope light?

Of course other than the "marine" label costing like 5x as much.

Is it 12V vs. 110?

Thanks!

I think it's 12v vs 110v,...

And possibly the marine rope lights are sealed better, Maybe?,

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

if there is not a little "box" on the end then it would be the voltage difference.

You could try here:
http://www.imtra.com/product/marine_lighting/indirect_lighting/led_rope_light/led_3_8_rope_lighting.htm

6.00/ft, 6.00 for the connector kit, .30 for the end cap and you can have it as long as you like.....

WE ALL know that the speed at which you work, the wee hours of the moring that you work, that you will have the Jet done in one day of the 10 you are taking off, so that leaves 9 days of pure Islander time, plenty of time for a January splash...... :p :D

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Jas, I've recently ordered LED strip lights for my boat. The reason the marine grade ones are so expensive is because they're actually waterproofed to IP standards. They also run off of straight 12v power, so no inverter is needed. I ordered two rolls of these for my 19 footer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UYL23C/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details

They're much less expensive than the big manufacturers, and they come with a few tradeoffs. The colors are a little off, but the white is white, and the red is red. I have them hooked up to http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UYL23C/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details so that I can use my stereo to control them. But it also gives me a remote. I haven't exactly figured out the waterproofing part, yet, but I'm not to worried, since I'll be moving everything to the Islander when I get it, and will probably mount the controller in the cabin.

Here's a video of them on the spare bed temporarily hooked up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKE-1jdyAsI

Those would look pretty sweet lit up for some night time fishing. Price seems right to.

I plan to copy whatever you do for the interior lighting.

So what's up with the seating? Let get crackin'!

In my search I am seeing the pricing varies wildly, like $1.25/foot to over $6/foot. Sheesh.

Well, what I would really like to do is run a rope light all the way around under the gunwales, start and end at the console. Just zip tied up. Knowhattamean. Should be really super easy to install. I definitely don't want to spend the big bucks on the uber expensive "marine" led rope lights in the $100+ range. If I can stay around 50 bux that would be fine. I know if I went with regular incandescent I could save some dough. My tape measure tells me I'll need about 35 feet. I'll post up as soon as I find something that foots the bill.

I believe I have my seating figured - I've changed my mind a hundred times already on what I want to do, sheesh. My goal is to have that stern deck done this weekend, stay tuned:)

JO,

Thanks for the uplifting words of encouragement....LOL

I suppose with enough time and money anything can be fixed... I am in process of seeing where this motor really is(like your 4.3 situation-read your thread on that one).

If I have to get into it too much, I'll be purchasing a rebuilt unit(from a reputable marine engine builder). Otherwise, might go with a 4.3 or 5.7...

Jason, I might have missed something in your thread with the 4.3 motor... Where did you say you found the donor boat/motor? I found another boat I could buy for the engine/drive for reasonable price(5.7 motor/drive)...

Hope the little ones are all fired up about the snow, Christmas, etc...

I read a little bit on your 470 - if I were in your shoes I'd sell it off and go with a 4.3 or a 5.7 set up.

I grabbed my donor from a local marina. The owner was way behind on storage fees, it was the middle of the winter, he didn't care about the boat anymore - check post #109 and forward for more info on that Baja...

Just remember to get ip67 or ip68 ratings on whatever you get. ip68 is the 6/ft stuff, but it meets all the highest standards for waterproofing. Also, single color lights are cheaper than RGB, but if you're going to be using them at night, you'll really want something that can do blue or red. I like to go on night cruises, so I like having something other than white when just cruising around, then when I'm doing something that I need lots of light, I can flip it to white.

Well, since the Jet isn't a submarine any outdoor rated stuff should do the trick I'd think. And I won't really be cruising in the Jet, I'll need to see to tie up lines then flip it off to fish, pretty much. So, I think white will serve that purpose. I just can't see spending $100 - $200 on lighting for this boat so the search continues.

Try finding clear tubing at bottom feeder prices. Then you can waterproof the interior grade stuff which is the super bottom feeder priced stuff.
