Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Hey I was just reading that they are having one of the best fall walleye bites on the river that they have had in a long time! Not too late!!! I had to put that new well in so I winterized everything and put it all away...figures!!!!

Yah, I've been hearing the same buddy. I wish I had the leisure time to do some fishing - not so much. I hope my investment in the things I am completing this year will pay off in years to come though. (boat, house and otherwise)

Bummer on the well, I know about expensive water:facepalm:

Jas,

Just getting back from the deer woods and checked in. A little late to your launch party but congrats! Boat & video look great! Tons of hard work with a huge payoff! Thanks for sharing your journey!

When I bought the boat I have now, I was originally looking at a Jet.
My wife hated it. She can't see things like you did on this project.

This boat REALLY turned out great!
In fact, I'd like to find one in a few years, because I think it might serve me better than the one I have on certain waters. (and keep the one I have)

Thanks Bcast, great to see ya buddy!:)

Lon, when I started to look for a smaller boat I was originally looking for a SuperSport (or a Jupiter that I could cut the bow out of). I am really glad that I actually ended up landing on this Jet! The smaller profile and the more shallow hull (vs. the deep V on the others) will serve me much better on the rivers and smaller lakes that this will be used for. And, I can get away with a smaller HP engine on this too.

I sure didn't do it on purpose but I'm super glad it shook out this way!:)

Thanks man:D

Not much progress over the past few days, tooooo much going on.

Anyway, I found my to West Marine today when I was out and about and grabbed those switches I wanted...

Their tagged prices were:eek::facepalm::rolleyes:

But, they matched JMS Marine's listed price to the tune of 1/2 off their list price. Happy Jas!

West Marine will match prices on anything they have!! They have even looked items up on the net to match the price. Without me asking!!

Almost all brick and mortar stores for anything will match and in some cases beat competitor, including online prices. If I was in business I would. Far better to sell at slightly reduced profit than not sell at all. Especially when so many online stores offer free shipping all you are out is sales tax and gas money. Plus the store may have a repeat customer, which is even better.

No pesky lights in those switches, Jas. I think push-pulls match the character of the Jet better too. ;)

Shoot Chuck, I saved 50 bux off of their tagged prices just on those 3 switches. They'll have my biz if they keep that up!

Doesn't take but a little tiny light bulb to make me totally confused. Oh the embarrassment.

Yah, I think they match up pretty well, check it out...

I likem a whole bunch:)

The 3rd switch will be for some house lights. I gotta do a little shopping on that yet. I'm thinking some LED Strip lights cable tied under the gunwales for those, should be pretty easy to work that out.

Have an excellent Sunday fellas!

Nice...I like the look of those switches in there & the whole dash in fact. Nice and simple with lots of room to add something you may decide you need.

Very clean. Now all you need is a Flux Capacitor and a Warp Drive. I'm definitely gonna steal this design when I get around to putting a helm in my tinny. Lookin' good.

Yah, I'm with ya guys, I'm pretty happy with these switches. They seem to fit the boat quite nicely. Clean, simple, straight forward stuff, eh.

GA - I'm thinking I can get some work done on that stern deck this week. Maybe looking to have that finished up by the weekend possibly?? I'd like to anyway. We'll see how that part unfolds, this is going to be another busy week for me:redface:

Any way ya shake it, I definitely want this boat complete, totally finished by the end of 11. During my Christmas break I really need to be rolling this one out of the garage and the Islander in:)

Heads up fellas, tomorrow is Monday.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

So this morning I had just enough time to wire up the 12V socket, checked it...
P1070763.jpg

Boy do I love it when things work the way they are supposed to at the first go:)

Here is how my wiring and fuse block are looking at the moment...
P1070760.jpg

All I have left there is to wire up some house lights and label the cover.

Since my electrical is all but complete I figured I'd stuff the gunwales with noodles...

Ended up with about 12 or so under there. Lil extra flotation anyway.

Cheers guys:)

Wiring is looking good, but I gotta ask...in the second picture, what is the white thing sticking off the big black bundle of wiring? Maybe a dumb question, but I've asked them before. Hard to tell if is's wiring going thru the panel or what.

That is actually part of my rotary steering. It's a tube where the cable slides into when I turn the rig:)
