All right, I just burned two vacation days and I got a lot done!

(Well, on the kitchen rebuild anyway Bummer for the Jet but wife is happy )

This morning I started to get all the rigging zip tied in place...

I found this horn in a box of stuff. I believe this one came off Thumper the Baja. It cleaned up nicely...

I thought this might be a good spot to install...

I also got the bilge thru hull installed. Took me a while and was kind of a pain as I had to make the hole bigger while not wrecking my paint work...

Couple steps closer...

you know JO, if you planned it right, that casting deck will also make a good turkey carving table with room for all the dressings too..............

Some good news, some bad news...

Bad news: It snowed today, and just a little bit stuck. I am running out of time...

Bad news: My truck didn't make it home today. I think the fuel pump finally bit the dust. So my daily driver and my tow vehicle is out of commission. The fuel pump on this truck is big $$ too. Rats.

Good news: The mail lady dropped of my eBayed nav lights, bases and ss through hull for my bilge. Like em...

Good news: She also delivered my decals and they are pretty cool.

How did you clean up your aluminum trim there on the outside of the gunnell? (and corner castings/transom caps too)

Well, I ran a variety of methods but the best seemed to be:

120 on the belt sander (80 on the really bad/chewed spots)

220 by hand

320 by hand

400 by hand

3M Red Sanding Sponge by hand

Clean with mineral spirits

Protect with SharkHide

Heads up - this route will give you that "brushed" look vs. the "chrome" look.

Warning - there is a fair amount of elbow grease involved.

Allllllrighty! I grabbed those Bert's Tracks this morning...

First, I dug up this big cutting board...

No, it's not Jen's. I used this for cleaning fish and butchering deer and since I haven't done either in a good long while I figured I should put it to good use.

So, I ran it though the table saw to be used as backers...

I drilled out the holes and set down these rubber washers to keep the track up off the gunwale and let water/junk do it's thing...

Bolted down with the backers under neath...

Slid in the step pad inserts...

Man, I really like these...

...a lot!

And ya, these were meant for the Islander but I have an excellent replacements for her.

Oh ya, got the tach wired up too. I bumped the key and it reset to 0 rpm's, so all good...

The instructions only included the setting for Merc/Mariner. After a little digging I believe it's supposed to be set at 5P for my Johnson 50 2 stroke. Any of you J/E guys confirm that is correct?

Put Bert's on the my 2000 Starcraft, great product very expensive.

Most will say rig up the holders before launching as the small hardware has a tendency to "wander"

Going with Tite-Lok on the 79SS18, less expensive and will achieve the same results.

Nice assembly. Are you going with the metal or black plastic holders? I used both.

Yah, this Bert's stuff is silly expensive! I was able to score em $20 off each, on sale at Gander Mtn. I think the other way I feel like I can justify this gear is I only need to buy one set of rod holders for both boats by having tracks installed on both.

I'll be going with the alum holders even though the ABS ones can be found way cheaper.

Set at 5 for engines with 3 yellow stator wires (yellow, yellow/gray and yellow/blue).

I thought all J/E motors were 6P but I could be wrong and the smaller ones are different.

Your tach should register even while cranking so you can turn the motor over a couple revs and see if it works.
