Looking good bud. Looks like you might get it wet here real soon. I know it hardly matters but when I'm working with that 5200 I put masking tape on each side of the joint. I then smooth the joint pull the tape and I have a nice clean line. Did I mention the black and tin looks cool, because it sure does. Can't wait for you to post up some pic's of the hull with the motor on and ready for water. Keep up work you inspire a lot of us here on iboats.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Just catching up on your work, looking great!!

That OB looks familiar:)...So I guess you're going for that fishing boat look, huh? I just had a brief panic attack remembering this is/was a Jet Star! OK, recovered now. Since you're so much lighter now without the front deck etc., I wonder if you'll have to load up the front end to plane. You can always put lead bars up under your casting deck.

And don't worry about that cut, I bet the 5200 sealed it up pretty good!

Your OB mounting method is about the way I did mine. I had a little more trouble though because I couldn't get it to hang as vertical as you have yours, and my hanging frame wasn't moveable like the hoist you're using.

By the way, I ordered my registration numbers from your decal guy on ebay. A great guy & real easy to work with. I just contacted him thru the "Ask Seller a Question" link and he got right back to me, answered my ?'s, provided sample fonts/colors in an email and took my order. Two sets of numbers, all for $15.

I'm going to put in a good word & link in my thread too.

Again, excellent work!!!

Yah, sorry I am man handeling this "runabout" lake:eek:

Yup, I'll have some weight forward: Minn Kota trolling motor and batts should help keep that bow where it needs to be.

I'm actually putting together a whole bunch of stuff for David to make for me. Good guy to work with and the price is right, just the kind of guys we need eh!

Thanks GLG, appreciate your comments buddy!:)

Yah, I am looking forward to the day she is all rigged and ready to go too!

Jas - maybe you should visit this thread

GA, I have come to accept my 5200 containment problems. I don't even try to get it off any more. Just smear it on wherever, whenever. It's all good.

Looks good Jason, I really like the direction you've taken this project. I can't wait to see it on the water. If you finish before the snow flies maybe we can get out and do some fishing. Pike and walleye should start to heat up. The Sea Scamp is just about ready to get wet and Zach is dying to go fishing. Poor abused child!

Keep up the good work, I'll nominate you for spalsh of the year if ya finish.

Thanks man! Yah, I should have snapped a photo of that. Didn't think of it at the time. It right about even or just a hair below roughly.

So to show that Johnson 50 the commitment she needs I chopped up the outboard stand she has been bolted to and tossed it in the fireplace this morning. Next stop, the Jet transom:)

I lightly sanded the cowl/hood and cleaned it up. I started to tape off that rubber gasket along the bottom which was kind of a pain. So, I just peeled away the staples and took it off. I'm happy I did as there was a bunch of gunk in there that really needed to be cleaned out...

Then I cleaned again, primed and first top coat...

The paint was a orange peel a little. I think it was a little cold to be spraying this morning so I'll jut wait till it cures up give it another light sanding and hit it with another couple of top coats.

Have a great weekend guys :)

I always thought that the cavitation plate should be higher than the bottom of the hull by up to an inch for best performance,...

Am I wrong on that thinking??

Yah, I'm sure that is the case which is why I'm thinking about mounting a peg or two up to get it right in the sweet spot.:)

That's a good idea,......I know my Rude' 40 is much happier after I rehung it and moved it back with a after market trim tilt,...

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

So I ended up giving the cowl a light sanding and a couple of finish coats...
P1070085.jpg

Pretty happy with how that turned out. Much nicer than how I got it.:)

I got the motor mount bolt holes drilled out...
P1070087.jpg

I also got the motor all sanded/degreased/prepped/cleaned/taped(tedious)...
P1070086.jpg

After that photo I sprayed the first coat on and three of the four sides turned out pretty nice. The fourth I got a little excited I guess and sprayed too much - great big giant run along the side:facepalm:

Rats.

Ah well, I'll need to wait a day or two, sand it down and try again.

Just keeping the blades turning here.

Bad news, I just spent 15 straight hours trying to repair/replace my well pump and it didn't work. I think I may need a new well dug ($3K - $5K).

Morning Jason, been too busy to spend much time on the site for the last couple months. You are making some great progress on the Jet, it is looking real good. Well troubles can be a real pain in the pocket book, 3-5K isn't bad, up here they won't even look at it for less than 10K.

I can see my wife's face now as I explain to here that I'll be drilling my own well:eek:

Thanks Glen.

$10K, holy cow!

I was very frustrated with spending the $300 on a new pump (came out of my kicker slush fund). I am scared/frustrated at what the estimate will be for this job. I think I'll be getting one today.

Well my friend, the pros have looked at my well system. Looks like it's going to be $4300 for that check valve (and everything that goes with it).

Holy smokes. That right there guys, is a good old fashioned kick in the junk.

Excuse me while I just go over here in the corner to shudder in pain and cry a lot.

Hey JO, you can't replace the check valve yourself? I have never dealt with a well so I have no idea.....:D

Yah, it's the digging to 100+ feet of depth that would be the challenge for me (and my shovel).

Yup, I need a whole new well:facepalm:
