Looks nice. My only criticism would be.....if you were going to have a hatch there, I would have wanted it to open downwards and that, of course, won't work with your pattern there.

EZ does make a good point, down would make it easier. i did not even catch that until EZ mentioned it. although you could still use the same cutout and just have it open left or right instead and still have the ease of not fighting the hatch when having it open with a little catch on so it does not close on you if you should take a roll.

Very nice still and sturdy looking. You sure you don't want to come down to GA and fix mine?

Split that door down the middle vertically, then hinge it to open like a cabinet.

Maybe a simple trip to the junkyard to get some stretchy cargo net stuff out of a truck for very little dollars to put across the opening,

Saves some fabricating and holds stuff in storage,...

Just a thought,...

I don't blame you for being happy. That is a really nice piece of work. Love it

Ok guys....

At the risk of being pegged as just a simple minded country boy, here was my plan....

Left Hand - open and hold hatch

Right Hand - grab seat cushion

Left Hand - close hatch

:D

Hey Dave - so you know how a little while back I was yakkin on your thread about how I get 5200 everywhere when I am working with it? Thought you'd appreciate this...

When I was fastening that alum angle to the bottom side of that casting deck piece, I was in a pretty awkward position to mount it. To make things a little easier I tossed a few stainless screws in my mouth rather than trying to reach for them out of the box where they were sitting (old carpenters practice). Well of course I had 5200 all over my hands too.
Later at school I went to the lav and noticed a big white glob of 5200 on my bottom lip from my would be stainless steel screw holder. Yah, I struggle:rolleyes::facepalm:

Morning progress.

I decided painting up the underside of this casting deck would be much easier now rather than after install, so I got that done...

Then I moved over to the deck, sanded everything down, and started laying on epoxy. I was able to hit all the edges, rivet/screw heads and about 1/3 of the deck. That marks the end of my epoxy...

Originally I was just going to paint from here. But, I think I have talked myself into ordering up another batch of epoxy. I really didn't want to spend the extra dough but it's the right move. Over to US Composites in a minute.

Something else I learned this morning - 5200 is nearly impossible to sand smooth!!! Wood, PL, epoxy, aluminum rivet heads, ss screw heads are all child's play compared to that 5200! Yah, that was kind of a pain.

Cheers fellas!

Looks like your wouldn't need much more than a quart of epoxy to finish.

Yah, not a whole lot necessary to complete this. But, I have wood that yet needs to go into the Islander too. Now, since I am ordering more, I have a good excuse to cover all that stuff too so I'll go ahead and grab a bigger kit. Epoxy is money well spent, eh!

Can't have too much epoxy! The Jet is looking great. I like the casting deck and extra storage.

You didn't rip your lip off did ya? I tell ya, I should have took pics of my hands and arms. At the end of that day I loathed 5200. It was at least 2 weeks before it was all off my hands.

Dinner time with a 3 & 5 year old.."Daddy didn't you wash your hands?......."I did"....."Then why are they still dirty. This was a daily conversation....

I never did like the taste of 5200, but whatever floats your boat :D. Might as well order 5 more gallons of epoxy for when you get that SS you want when you find it ;).

Yah, I am liking that set up too! It's definitely extra time, materials and $ but certainly worth the effort.

Classic kid questions, love it.:)

Yah, took some rubbing, picking, peeling to get it off. Took off a little lip with it.

I do a lot better minimizing the mess with the bigger cartridge size in the calk gun rather than the smaller tube. Lot more convenient too.

Yah, kinda has a Professional Rustoleum bitterness at first then a Mineral Spirits sweetness, followed by a fine aged resin after shock to it. Really covers the pallet quite nicely.

No more boats! Two and done!

Well....

Until/unless that "free or nearly free" 25' Islander comes along;)

Great progress Man I didn't want to like the casting deck but I do :). I think it looks pretty cool without any doors on it really brings out all the curves and shows off the concave deck. I think You will be glad You ordered more epoxy it would stink to tear that all back out in a few years. I admire Your persistence as more and more My brain is being distracted by the calendar and the need to get in the woods thinking I may wrap up the epoxy on My floor this weekend and get ready for bow season.

Thanks yoop!

Yah, I'm trying to just get a little bit each day or maybe every other day. Just keep the blades turning is all.

I have pretty well decided not to bow hunt this year. The bow has stayed in the case and I haven't shot in almost two years now. If you remember back, this Jet was a trade for a kitchen rebuild. Well Jen said the other night...

"I am going to freak out and have a melt down if that boat is done before this kitchen is!"

The good news is they are about neck and neck. I'll blow out both projects if I pick up the bow though:rolleyes:

So, get some time in the wood for the both of us buddy;):)

The epoxy is the way to go. That deck will be solid for years to come. Cool storage idea. I'm regretting not doing ski locker storage or something.

You're safe. A boat is never done.

Whew:redface:

I'll let her know you said so GA, thanks buddy:D

You have a big chunk of space up in the bow there you can toss stuff though, eh?

So since my epoxy is en route I figured I pick up a fun project this morning. Check it out...
