Very nice! That things gonna look showroom fresh when you get 'r done.

Thanks man, sticking decals is a good sign of progress, I think:)

I got them fro this fella...

He is great to work with and his prices are very reasonable. I actually bought these ones for the Islander project - I don't think she'll mind if the Jet borrows them;)

Nice stickers bud. White over that black is the bomb. I'm going with white reg stickers too, I think. Silver sounds good tho.

Yah, no more donor boats on my place (at least till another metal one shows up too;))

Yah, I like how that "Starcraft" just jumps off the boat, sharp eh.

Yup, I am going to order my MC numbers and such from him in white as well. Should look pretty good:)

This morning I installed the casting deck.

I goobed on 5200 all along the mating surfaces and angle alum...

SS screws to fasten to the deck...

The upper section got a healthy layer of PL and stainless screws for install...

Bomber...

Smoothed out the 5200 using a digit and Mineral Spirits to make for a nice transition...

Then I started thinking about that Johnson 50...

I grabbed the hoist and lifted the OB off the stand, got er into position...
P1070012.jpg

Set the transom cap in place, lowered the OB, centered it and clamped (yes it's still hanging on the chain not just those little clamps)...
P1070013.jpg

I marked the top notch and the top of the "slide"notch. I figure the OB can't go any lower so it's at the lowest setup. She can only go up from here...

Just a rough look tells me I may want to mount it higher by one peg.

My plan from here is to drill a pilot, make sure all is good. Then, switch to the bigger bit and drill from each side to keep it all centered as best I can.

All this sound about right to my OB loving buddies out there?

Question, with the outboard on, will that splashwell drain be blocked?

Oh, Oh. Look out boys. Jas if finally puttin' power on a boat. WooHoo!!! If ya only had a tiller - you could be test floating right now. Still you're crossing things off the checklist. And I hope the kitchen is receiving equal time. I see why you and 5200 have such a close relationship. But the casting deck is solid!!

Well, just lining that OB up at the moment. I am going to prep and paint it as long as it's not on the boat yet. The previous owner sprayed some touch up paint and there is over spray everywhere. More stuff to do but it would bug me pretty bad if I left it.

Yah, this morning I had 5200 and PL all over the place. I was thinking I could keep it contained so I didn't put on the working trousers. Well, now I have another pair of working trousers with goop everywhere. I even cut my hand so I had blood all mixed in too. It was a mess pretty much.

Ah, so far so good with that casting deck:)

Don't forget to seal the holes once they are drilled out.

TILLER??? Looks great! That casting deck is much smaller than I pictured so it will work great with some storage. I was envisioning something more massive. You should run it over to lake michigan today and give it a test...18-24 foot waves!!!

I was up on there this morning, it's a very comfortable size - I like it a lot. Just enough room to move around some and just the right amount of space for my trolling motor foot control. At the same time it isn't eating up any usable main deck space. I think a good compromise overall.:)

I started working on paint prep for the OB cowl.

You can see all the over spray....
P1040870.jpg

I used a heat gun and a razor to get all the decals off. Goo B Gone got the adhesive off and the over spray off the black rubber gaskets.

I'll get there.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Just catching up on your work, looking great!!

That OB looks familiar:)...So I guess you're going for that fishing boat look, huh? I just had a brief panic attack remembering this is/was a Jet Star! OK, recovered now. Since you're so much lighter now without the front deck etc., I wonder if you'll have to load up the front end to plane. You can always put lead bars up under your casting deck.

And don't worry about that cut, I bet the 5200 sealed it up pretty good!

Your OB mounting method is about the way I did mine. I had a little more trouble though because I couldn't get it to hang as vertical as you have yours, and my hanging frame wasn't moveable like the hoist you're using.

By the way, I ordered my registration numbers from your decal guy on ebay. A great guy & real easy to work with. I just contacted him thru the "Ask Seller a Question" link and he got right back to me, answered my ?'s, provided sample fonts/colors in an email and took my order. Two sets of numbers, all for $15.

I'm going to put in a good word & link in my thread too.

Again, excellent work!!!
