That boat would be an awesome...TILLER! Looking good. Will your counsel sit alright with the concave deck? Walleye will be hitting the river before long...

Yeah I was just picturing the seat pedestal coming out from the floor at about a 75 degree angle. But then I assumed Jas has over-thought that as well and has a beefy solution in mind.

;):D

I actually have three options I am chewing on at the moment.

Truth be told...

After I wrap up the deck, casting deck, paint, install the console, bolt on the OB, hook up the controls I plan to sea trial a little and see what she says to me about seating layout. Those will go last.

You'd be cooler if you did!

I'm totally fine being a loser:p

Progress for this morning, not much...

I did some staring and measuring and thinking for the front casting deck. This will be a little tricky to get it to look good and be solid. You know, dealing with all the angles and curves and stuff - just want to get it right is all.

You could make a template out of cardboard. If you mess it up, throw it out and start over. That way you don't have to waste any ply. I'm sure you have a foolproof plan in place already.

Yah, since I am rebuilding the kitchen too I just had a bunch of huge chunks of cardboard (stove/frige) I recycled the other day. Sure wish I would have hung on to a couple of pieces now:facepalm:

Looks excellent jas. The casting deck doesn't stand a chance of failure, all the faith in the world in ya. It's gonna be a very functional and fun boat.

So heres what I thinking...you will have a console in the boat with a seat. More than likely have a seat in the back. Is a casting deck needed? If you are going to be using it on the river/lakes I don't know. I grew up fishing out of a 14 foot starcraft with bench seats and a false floor in it and there wasn't really a need for one. I'm just thinking of the space issue...but with a deck you get a little storage room...

I think a deck would be nice up front but it wouldn't need to be very high.

I know people really seem to like those casting decks but I hated how much space mine took up in the Mariner. I would have eliminated it entirely if it didn't provide some structure and a way to cover up some of those ugly cut outs in the floor for the ribs. I really can't see where they add a lot of fishability to these boats anyway. I suppose in a smaller boat thats a little tippy being able to sit slightly higher vs standing to cast is advantageous.

Thanks Rg! Yah, I'll be going with 3/4" ply up there so it should make for a solid build.

Yah, spose we fake a good game anyway;)

Hi teamster.

So heres what I thinking...you will have a console in the boat with a seat. More than likely have a seat in the back.

Nope, no back to the helm seat. Actually, at the moment I am debating a fixed seat vs. a swing away seat for the helm. More on that later.

Is a casting deck needed?

Needed? Nah. Would I like one? Yes!

As far as room in the boat it actually provides more room by extending the deck where there otherwise wouldn't be one. Also, like you mentioned, extra storage which is great.

I think a deck would be nice up front but it wouldn't need to be very high.

Yah, I wouldn't want it any higher than where it is right now. I think it's kinda a good compromise.

I would have eliminated it entirely

I'd love not to have to built it. That would save a bunch of extra work for sure. But, it the long run I think I'll enjoy it.

Friday guys! Goal for the weekend is to actually get that casting deck built.

Cheers:)

Wow! Someone's been busy the past few weeks. I dig the opened up floor plan. A big thumbs up from me on the casting deck, almost be a shame not to do it. The concave floor is way cool. This is why I love these boats...you can do anything you envision with them.

Thanks hoss! Yah, that casting deck will add another almost 3' of useable deck space that otherwise wouldn't be there (plus storage) so that's pretty cool

I feel like I am close but I still really have a long way to go before she can float. The console build I have in mind will take a little while (along with all the hook ups) - but I'll get there. Will it be snowing the day I get this Jet up on plane? Ah, I don't care so long as she gets up on plane;):D

As for the Islander, well, it's a loooooong winter here in the middle of MI.

Yeah, I seem to remember early Islander pics of Jas in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops chipping frozen foam. I think he said "not cold yet"
