Yah, better get that "K Frame" figured out because even if all that melts ^^^^ today it won't be enough to float that Jet off the trailer.

:D

No need to worry about that, we still have all we need around here from what Irene left us!

Just so you know, I'm serious about this. I spent this morning gathering everything I need for all the contingencies, since the lake is 25 miles away....trailer stuff, extra gas, oil, tools, PFD's, stuff the state says I need etc. etc., checking lights and so on. Dropped the car off at the garage, should be done Monday.

I never could have done this without all the help from everybody here who chimed in and provided info and know-how, paint advice and formulas ;), sources for supplies & parts, and especially encouragement the many times I wondered if I was crazy (yes, I am), and felt like giving up! One thing I learned is that there is more than one way to do anything!

Yeah, I think one thing that bogged me down a lot of times was not having a clear goal in my mind. Did I just want to make it usable, or did I want to make it look & perform like new? On most things in the end, I decided that since I had come this far, I might as well do it so it would last and make it a long term investment & went all the way on new parts etc. "Next time", I would be sure to set the goal in my mind before I started!

I struggle with that myself. Is this a "Show Boat" or a something to use everyday and get Blood and Guts all over it. I am so Anal at times I get bogged down with PERFECTION!!! My Wife tries to keep me in line but it's hard to do. I really think you found a happy medium. I may not be Perfect but She Shore Is Purty!!!!!!!

Yeah my total paint job failure is kinda bittersweet. On one had "all that work ruined!" on the other hand "yeah I don't have to car about stuff! <smacks into dock> "Fenders? What are those?"

Thanks, Jon. I'm getting itchy for that!

EZ, you're right about that, I'm sure I'll relax a little more & change my expectations once I get 'er banged up a little again! I guess that's when you really start to enjoy a boat.

Wood, I think you and I are birds of a feather-I'm always torn between good enough and can I do it better?

For the first time in a couple years, I've been reading thru my thread. All I can say is "What a long strange trip it's been!" :)

Looking at 2-4" or 4-8" of snow today/tomorrow, depending on who you believe.

Shooting for next Wednesday!

A part that holds the engine and trans in place in my book is a major part!

Next boat restore you might consider an ice breaker.

Yeah, I really feel like an idiot about this. I was on a trip to my hometown 2 years ago and took the car to my mechanic of 30 years ago to check out a little slop in the steering. He located the worn bushings and said I'd better get them replaced soon. Well, right at the time, money was tight so it didn't happen...then I forgot about it...and it seemed every time I remembered about it, money was tight again etc. So this fall I figured I beter have the clunking noise in the front end checked out before winter. My current mechanic says he's never seen one so worn before on that model car. He was afraid to take out the bolts to just replace the bushings because the K-frame might break off then. Is that embarrassing or what? I'm usually pretty well on top of maintenance.

That will give you enough time to slide that new rubrail insert in. Then you'll have to take all those pics all over again.:D Your boat looks beautiful!!!

I hear ya on cars, I just sold an almost perfect '98 VW Golf (30mpg) for parts, because the drivers side strut tower completely rusted out from the inner fenderwell. There was zero rust on the rest of the car. I was going to try to fix it, and probably could have, but I wasn't very comfortable liability-wise if my repair failed and I ended up in on-comming traffic. Also, i'd have to work on that instead of my boat this weekend. Now to find another car.....

Thanks...& I think you're right, I'll get that rubrail in while it's cold and then it won't don anything but expand when it warms up. Better than shrinking I think. Good luck on the car search, I hate buying cars.

Re: 1964 15' Starcraft Aluminum Runabout Project

Update: The snow is over and we only got a couple inches. :)

I just checked the NWS forecast and it looks like a pretty good week. Shooting for Tuesday now, forecast is for mostly sunny, high of 53 & winds calm to 5 mph. How could it get any better this time of year? Hope they're not lying to me.:rolleyes:

That is as long as I have my car back!
