Congrats on finding the right cable looks like that was a real pita hoping it works .

Sometimes ignorance is bliss, but this time it was a PITA. I was mighty discouraged yesterday, hope that harness isn't a long time coming! I missed my secret target of a launch by the end of August, but maybe later this month....:)

Glad you found the cable, LL. After I saw your post yesterday I had a few minutes and started searching to see if I could find something for you. I found your remote and tach. Nowhere could I find cables, even on BRP - only for their current products. I was thinking Lake is up a creek without the proverbial paddle. I gave up, but you didn't, thank goodness. I do hear a splash coming, waiting for the YEEHAW!

Thanks for looking, GA.

That's what I was talking about with the BRP website setup being counter-intuitive. Here's how I finally got to it. Might be helpful for someone else looking for a hidden part in the future!

Go to www.shop.evinrude.com

Click on Parts

In the drop down box that says "Evinrude" in it, expand it and from the drop down menu, choose

OB Accessories>Year folder (Don't click on the HP of the motor in the year folder).

Scroll down to the bottom of the Year folder list and there's another whole world of parts folders listed by category.

From there I googled the part number and came up with various vendors to find the best price. The price range was pretty amazing, from $126 to $180, plus shipping!:eek::eek: It pays to shop around.

Man, can I relate to this statement. Wind is howling today so no painting the final on the trailer today. I don't think I'll ever get this thing done!!!! I'm glad you found the cable and I can also relate to the Wallet Pain!!!!:(

Don't feel to bad, my secret launch date came and went 4 months ago! I'm sure you'll get to splash her in September.....

Thanks, dj, also thanks for the lead on the drain tube flaring tool. Too late for this time, but I'll stick it in here for future reference!

Contrary to the instructions, you can do aluminum boat drains WITHOUT the O-ring and bushing. I think the transom drains have the bushing, but I haven't seen splashwell drains with them.

Re: 1964 15' Starcraft Aluminum Runabout Project

My offi$ial BRP battery cable arrived today.

I had charged the battery that came with the boat last week. I occasionally charged it over the last couple years and last charged it several weeks ago and it has sat since then. When I hooked up the charger a few days ago, it said it was fully charged so I let it sit for a few hours anyway. I decided to check its output today and it was 12.19v. I guess that's just about where it should be.

Now for some improvement in the weather and I can do a little work in that direction.

Unfortunately, no word yet on when the harness will be shipped. Hope to hear soon now that the holiday is over. Once I get that I should be golden!

I think that is pretty much the same ones that Menard's sells too. If it is I have been happy with mine on the Islander. Heck, the price is right too!

Does it fit over the outboard? Not that it's critical, just wondering. Can't beat that price.

Thats the cover I have on my 16SS and after 4 years its moldy and one of the straps just broke. Used only in the summers and kept in full sun in Maine. Not a bad deal for the money but next time I'll save the recipt to claim the 5 year warranty. I think I went to the next size up tho and it doesn't cover the OB. One other thing....I had to make a wooden frame under it to prevent puddling.

Thanks. I just went to Wal Mart to see what they had on the shelf and I see that the covers are made by Attwood, so I'll try to research them a little better on line. I'm a receipt-saver for warranties, I'm sure none of these companies really expect too much of that! I figure on some sort of extra support underneath anyway, probably the wooden bows for summer and a PVC frame for winter. I'd probably throw on a supplemental tarp in winter.

The 14 to 16 won't cover the outboard and if you go the next size up it might be to wide as the Jetstar is pretty narrow. You can buy a separate outboard cover. I only use my cover in summer when towing I have wood frame and use a silver poly tarp in the winter. I like the poly tarp because the snow slides right off of it.

Woo Hoo! The harness came today, only took a couple days. While I had the cover off and was looking things over in preparation, I found another wire problem. A wire had shorted out and burned in half. Looks like the insulation may have worn off from vibrations then shorted out. I spliced the two ends back together, I'll have to try to look up & see what that one was.

Otherwise, the motor end is all hooked up now, just need a clamp for the oil hose. Don't hold me to this, but I might possibly be trying a start-up tomorrow! Looking at this picture, the mounting looks a little off (not level), doesn't it? Might have to tweak that too, I hate the thought of removing those bolts again!!!

It looks like an octopus, and that's without the fuel line hooked up.

Oh, and I solved the mystery of the wire from the oil tank. It had a connector on it that was different from the two wires I uncovered while moving wire bundles around to fit things in place. I don't know whether the one on the tank was original or the ones in the motor, but I cut the motor end off and added insulated blade connectors to match what was under the cover.

The Wal-Mart covers work well for the money. They only last a couple years but for the price you can't beat 'em. I had one for my Jupiter, I went cheap on purpose because I parked the boat under some really dirty trees and didn't see the point in trashing an expensive cover.

The motor does look crooked as do the mounting bolts
