Mick, :DThat looks great!:D I will definitely look into the Easypoxy. Man it looks better than new.

Thanks again for being so thorough in your posts and pics (and videos:)). Next weekend is the big day for me. I finally pick up the boat. The snow has melted and it is out. Now I just have to figure out how to work around a new baby and all the honey-dos. Mine will be a long process.

Congratulations, again, on a fantastic job.

mick, looks great, i read--spilled paint in paint tray--thought you where spraying it, did you roll & tip? looks awesome either way, careful getting her back on the trailer aftr all this id hate to see her get scratched.
and again thats for the catalog of info you have presented, has been a treasure tove to me. i appreciate your efforts. depending on weather im shooting for gettin the transom in this weekend.

btw was that plain jane white?, im using white or offwhite on mine, just curious.

Arch- Yeh I'm figuring the top will go alot smoother and be a lot less time and labor intensive.

Caravan and Osborne- You guys gotta get thread going on here! When you do make sure you post the link on my thread so I can follow it. Caravan- I think I told you my thoughts before on the wife and kids:D

Darren,
I wanted to spray but decided against due to the fact I didn't have a booth(didn't want to build one), and just because I am more familiar with rolling paint and such( I didn't want to screw it up spraying:eek:)

Mick, this thread of yours has been tons of help. I have a 160 AT Saturn II with a Volvo Penta I/O that I am working on too. All I have been able to do are really small things like restore the dash panel and repair all of the wiring. School will be out for a few weeks and my wife has decided to be gracious enough to allow me unlimited time to work on it. I am going to remove a lot of the unoriginal parts like air horn and switches and things like that. Is there a reason you chose Petit over Interlux? I am guessing it was price which is why I am considering it too. Did you have to prime the hull before you applied the epoxy bottom paint? What is meant by roll and tip. Is that a paint roller and brushed to get rid of some of the bubbles the roller may leave behind? What type of rollers did you use? I am sorry for all of the questions but I figure that since you probably asked many of these questions yourself, asking you might save me a lot of phone calls and trips to my hardware supply stores. Thanks again for your post and I really hope my boat comes out as beautiful as yours is coming a long. I'm choosing white with a red cap since those are the original colors (although the red has faded to orange). Thanks again and I hope you can help me out with a response. I look forward to your updates.

Donkey- Yes I chose the easypoxy over interlux because of the price and all the positive reviews from different sites on the easypoxy.
- Roll and tip is a roller and then lightly tip any air bubbles
- yes I did prime(pettit undercoater) because I sanded down pretty far and for another $30 it was piece of mind to know that I would be getting a good bond. I wouldn't skip this step.
- I used a 6" foam roller for the bottom and a 3" roller for the sides, and a 2.5" brush for the tipping. Any flat surface if you just continue to roll fast the bubbles will come out on there own. The only place I really used a brush was on the sides and along the edge of the keel where the roller would stop(there were always bubbles when you stop the roller)

Post as many questions as you would like, that's what this place is for! This site is the only reason I was even able to contemplate getting a boat.

Tonight I got the eyebolts in the bow and stern. I basically added silicone, put in the bolt, tightened it down, then cleaned up the excess. I hate working with silicone- it's a freakin mess all the time:mad:

Tomorrow I am going to the boat store to look at trailers:D and to pick up the flange tool for the transom drain plug.

I'm excited to get started. The closest place to me that stocks marine paint is in Salem about an hour north. Hopefully they are open tomorrow so I can call and get some info. Unfortunately for me, I don't think I can turn the boat over without removing the entire I/O setup. The transom is solid and I can't see the need to remove it. I figure if the engine goes bad and I need to rebuild it, then I will consider taking an even closer look at the transom. So, for painting the underside, I will have to get the boat high enough to get under it and paint it but then I have been wondering how to handle painting around where the boat is supported.
I HATE silicone too! No matter how hard you try to not get that stuff everywhere, your fingers are slippery and every rag feels just as contaminated.
I see you commented on my post. What do you think of the dash panel?
BTW, I use a Mac too and can't find an easy way to keep the actual image size large but file size down. I'll keep searching for the solution there.

Wow Mick, I gotta say she's looking very nice. Nice job on the paint. I just need the weather here to warm up so I can start stripping mine down for a fresh coat. Can't wait to see yours on the trailer.

I hate silicone too. Especially since it's not the best for this application. I would have gone with 3M 5200 or 4200. Please don't use silicone for your drain plug!

Ez- I was going to epoxy everything but I decided against it. I will be using epoxy on the drain plug. The reason I went with silicone is because if I ever needed to get those eyebolt out I will be able too with silicone. 5200 or epoxy-they are permanent and not coming out

Then I'd go with 4200. I have not heard good things about silicone's effectiveness on a boat.

Thanks EZ. What's everyone else's thoughts on silicone for the eyebolts- my boat store guys recommended to use silicone as well. I saw and episode on Ship Shape TV and they used silicone as well on the eyebolts.

I was at the boat place today to pick up the flaring tool so I can do the drain plug tonight. Then we looked at trailers in the pouring rain! There are two used trailers that are possibilities- actually, probably only 1- the other would need to much work for what I expect.

Sorry about only a couple pics, I took them from the truck since it was pouring.

Here are 1200 lbs Load Rite Trailers(two on the bottom). Brand New, needs nothing except some extra angle iron supports for the bow support. I can get these for $500 after trading mine in for $150.

Here is an older Load Rite 2000 lbs trailer. It needs paint in my opinion, new keel rollers, new bunks, new winch. I'd have to barder to get all these upgrades. This trailer would be $500 after I trade mine in.

Here is an older Cox 1200 lbs Trailer. This needs alot of work- electrical, fenders are all bent, new keel rollers, new bunks, new winch, and paint. This trailer would be $300 after I trade mine in. This trailer is all welded together, the other two are all bolted together.

Let me know what you guys would get. I'm leaning towards new just because I won't have to put any time into it. Both of the other two will require alot of time and more money.

New one....you'll have way more in the used ones.....and I know how much you like trailer work! :D

New gets my vote also, I spent way more than that on paint, lights, hardware, rollers, nuts, bolts etc. And tell 'em you want one out of the middle of the stack!!:D:D:D

No brainer. All the brackets and other hardware plus paint, sandpaper, wire wheels etc you'd spend to fix up a used trailer would put you over the cost of the new one. Personally I can't believe they charge that much for the used ones.

New gets my vote. If the diff was significantly more, I might go used; but less work and no hassle wins.

BTW- next Saturday is the day to pick up the boat (finally). I'll probably start the thread on Sunday night after sitting in it going, "vroom, vroom" all afternoon.:D
