Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks Bob for that info! I had no idea, but I guess I should have known that gas is lighter than water. That is good because now it will be a little lighter:D

I will be on a dry spell here for at least this whole week because we have practice 6-9 all week. So I am looking at 3rd coat next weekend, then trailer sometime next week, then move the boat bottom onto the boat trailer sometime after that. That's depressing:mad:

Thanks again Bob

Hey Mick that looks awesome! I can't see how a third coat would hurt, thanks for the video!

Thanks Arch and tinkering.

I was wandering? When these things are flipped over should we wax them or something after they are fully cured or just let them be???

Hey Mick,
The boat is looking great. You have come a long way since you started.
I can't see where a third coat would hurt either.
We always enjoy video.
Keep them coming.

just make sure you are done with the painting before waxing! Nothing will cause fisheyes faster than wax!

Thanks wvmedic! I appreciate the comments.

Arch- Have you waxed the bottom of your boat? you used automotive paint correct?

Funny when you look back at the pics from the beginning to now:eek:

I waxed mine while it was flipped because you will never do as good of a job on a trailer. Arch, silicone will cause fisheyes worse. The only possibility of a problem from a third coat would be likelyhood of the paint cracking. Not likely but some paints can crack if it gets too thick.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well, it turns out we will be out for practice right after school tomorrow:D so I'm out here tonight and I just got her sanded down with the finishing pad again and wiped her down in preperation for tomorrow.

Tomorrow night I will be putting on the 3rd and final coat of paint. The weather is supposed to be in the 50's thru Wednesday and then chance of rain thru the weekend. So I think this would be the best time to go ahead and do the final coat. That way she will have at least a full 24 hours to dry before some humidity shows up.

that's it for tonight- tomorrow night her bottom side will be finished:eek:

goodnight!

Fantastic... it's been a journey, that's for sure. Looking forward to seeing the hull flipped upright and the rest of the rebuild underway.

After two and a half hours, and spilling the paint! I finally got her done with no paint to spare! I was moving the bucket with the paint tray on it and tripped over the tarp. The tray spilled and I lost about a half a cup of paint(there goes about $10). Freakin Murphy! Luckily, I had just enough to finish- I was worried though for a little while.

Again, I gotta praise easypoxy paint. It is so easy to work with, levels great, and leaves a fantastic shine.

I got some pics and my longest *****VIDEO***** yet!

Finally all done with the bottom after 3 coats

Thanks for all the comments and help along the way so far to every iboater who helped me get to this point!!! Your help has been the only reason I have been able to make it to this point!

The next step will be to flip her after I get a trailer.

Thanks again guys!!!

Goodnight!

How many quarts of topcoat paint would you say you used?

I'd need blue and fear if I have to get an additional quart it may not match 100%. Debating with getting a gallon.

Does the Easypoxy paint skin over in the can quickly or is a couple months or less okay? I'm doing mine outside (no garage) and am at the mercy of the weather.

Thanks for posting those videos!

Darren, as I said in your thread, no way you'll need a gallon. I'd bet money that Mick is only 2 quarts in at this point.

It doesn't seem to skin over much in the can though I had one that was mostly empty that skinned over when I went back to it to do some touch ups. You could always screen it.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks Guys! Pauly you are right about opening the door and smiling!

Darren- EZ was right. I only used two quarts for three coats on the bottom, plus about half a quart of the undercoater(primer). I cannot attest to anything skimming over- my open can sat for 3 days at most.

Hey Mick, the boat looks awesome! You did a great job on the body work, and your on the down hill slide...the cap is usually a cake walk compared to the bottom. I had 10 time more work in prepping the bottom than the top. Great video too! :D
