How does the propane heater work?? I'm using a 55,000 btu one that can really throw some serious heat

Lime- it has a hose that hooks up to a propane tank and a electrical cord that has to be plugged in to run the fan. It throws but not as much as the 60000 btu diesel one I'm borrowing. More than enough though for a secondary heater for me

I meant how does it work for heating up your work space? With mine even on low i'm working in shorts and a t-shirt and it's in the mid twenties outside

With the 60,000 btu one I'm borrowing I am in a tshirt. This new 40,000 btu propane one is nice but for my space it works better in conjunction with my stove then on it's own. The thing with the forced hot air tube in my space is they are so loud so I only have them running 5 minutes once or twice an hour and then my stove does the rest.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Here are some pics from last night. I got the back section of the decks bottom and sides glassed in. I put small pieces of glass on all the screw holes that I made in the bottom of the main deck piece to get the bow out.

Archbuilder- I also straightened up and organized again:D to get ready for covering everything up when I sand down the stringers and transom.

Oh yeh- the foam came yesterday too!

Shouldn't be to much longer till this deck is all sealed up!

where the bow eye bolt will go- glassed the top- first layer.

And the foam

I gotta get some more wood cut this afternoon, and I hope to sand down the stringers and transom too. That way tonight I can glass them in.

Hey Mick,
Make sure that you store the foam in a warm place. At least above 60 degrees.
Looking great.

Micks, I think the foam is taking up too much space like that, you should just pour it all in a five gallon bucket till you re ready:D Great job, Cant wait to see it all closed in. Stay warm tonight

If you decide to follow this suggestion make sure you take a video it will be really cool.
We use to put a little in a pop bottle, put the lid on, shake and throw it. It did get a little messy when it exploded. :D:cool:

Skibum- what the hell! I put it all in a five gallon bucket and now I have a big mushroom in my dining room!!!

Nah just kidding- that would be pretty cool though to see that.

Bob- I'm gonna try the water bottle thing!

It was very cold out there tonight but I just sanded down the stringers and transom and I'm starting to get pretty excited to think it will all be closed up soon!

Here are the pics from tonight
A before shot of the peaks and valleys
100_1009.jpg

After- some valleys- would you guys fill those with filler or just let the poly fill them
100_1010.jpg
[/IMG]

I hate sanding and the dust associated with it!!!
100_1012.jpg
[/IMG]

A look at the valleys in the transom- again fill with filler or just polly and glass?

Did I mention I was excited that it will be sealed up soon:D

Goodnight!

Hey Mick,
It looks great.
Are you going to wrap glass over those sharp edges?
Bob- I'm gonna try the water bottle thing!
One warning don't fill the bottle up. Maybe a quarter to half.
Have fun.

Mick I had a couple of places like that, I just filled them with duraglass. I would round over the edges with a grinder too, it will be a lot easier to get the glass on that way. Looking good!

Lime- must be nice to be working in a confined area- must be toasty in there!

I didn't go out till this afternoon and it was low 20's. Fired up the stove and all was well.

This afternoon I was sanding again(thanks to you guys reminding me to round over the edges)! I forgot all about it last night. I'll be going back out tonight to finish up vacuuming everything. Then maybe fill the valleys with filler- we'll see- I got school work to do for tomorrow.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Tonight I finished vacuuming and cleaning and then filled in the valleys, the transom, and bow eye bolt area with filler.

Here are the pics

everything rounded over good enough

I hate fiberglass dust!
100_1013.jpg
[/IMG]

I filled all the deep valleys- the smaller 1/16" to 1/8" I left go and will leave it up to the polly
100_1015.jpg
[/IMG]

I also filled alot of old holes and nicks in the transom and bow eye bolt area

Hey Mick,
That looks better, that should make laying the glass go better.
I'll bet you will be glad when that glass work is done. :p
Looks Good
