Looks good Mick. I'm working on my deck right now as well.

Have you seen the Ark Trav on your local CL?

micks110,
The deck is looking good my friend.
I hope rounding over the corners takes care of your issues. I used a 1/2" round over bit in my router.
As for my location, I'm in wonderful land of TN. I'm going home Friday night.
Have a good night.

I saw you had some work stuff to do tonight too.
Yeh, I was cruising there for a while but I didn't get to the boat tonight either- school work. Tomorrow I got baseball so I'm shooting for Wednesday to get back on it.

Hey Mick,
I saw a 1957 Arkansas Traveler on CL today. It wasn't nearly as nice as what you have.
Hope you get back on the boat soon.

floor is looking good. what subject do you teach? and what grade? I was a professional student for a while. Admissions didnt understand when I went in and asked about their 401 k program. The gelcoat is coming along great. I think I will be waiting on the buffer repair guy to get the bottom done.

skibum- I teach high school Phys Ed., Outdoor Ed., Strength Conditioning, and the new class that I am doing work for now is Sport and Performance Psychology. I created the curriculum for the class but I never did any of the actual lesson yet. It's primarily powerpoint, but one powerpoint lesson takes about 2-3 hours to make- and this class is 90 classes!

Since EZ told me about the AT in my area I have been looking around more for them. Ebay really doesn't have much either though. I'm surprised there aren't more out there- they must not have been that popular or something?

Wow I'm getting old. Power point in highschool! We had overhead projectors with hand written slides if we were lucky, Ususally just a chalkboard. And in one room (the computer lab) they had about 20 286's. No internet, no flat screens, I dont even remember if we had mice.

Hey, You think you are getting old. When I went to High school we had mice but they were on the floor. Our computers had a sharp end and a rubber end.
:D:D
I'm not going to go any further. :p

Forget computers. We weren't even allowed to use calculators in math class. But, I did get a new record player. :)

I know I'm not that old but Its been 20 years but seems like it should be about 5. I am just in denial. some reason I am not loosing my hair but it is migrating from my head to my nose, eyebrows and ears. Last summer I got a sunburn on my head. That is not supposed to happen to me that happens to my dad.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

I made some progress last night before I had to go in and do more pwerpoint for school. I haven't gone to bed before 3am in 4 days- Ive gotten 12 hours of sleep in 4 days! I don't even know what I am doing anymore:p

Last night I rounded over the edges of the front piece and back piece of the deck. I have to do the underside of the front piece yet and then I can glass.
The foam still hasn't come yet- it's been a week and a half- I gotta give them a call I guess. I'm gonna try and get out this afternoon to finish rounding the edges so I can finish the glas on the bottoms of the deck. That way when the foam gets here I can drill my holes, vacuum, screw the deck down, and pour the foam.

I will try to post the pics later on.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Tonight I got the rounding of the edges done, cleaned up, and got the glass on the main deck piece. I worked beautifully rounded over both sides with a 3/8" bit for me. Thanks Bob.

The night before I took all the screws out from under the fiberglass. Remember before I glassed over the deck I filled the screws with wax. All I had to do was use a countersink bit and drill threw the glass and the screws came right out.

Getting the glass ready for poly- remember the middle 38" section was done so I just had to tie into the edge and wrap it under to the underside. Again the rounded over edges worked great- Zero air pockets.

All finished

I cut all the pieces of glass for the back section of the deck but I didn't do that tonight- 12:30 am and I still have school work to do!

Did I mention- it's a pain in the *** to wrap an entire deck in glass!
continued....

I got a new toy too! I figured I had to give the other one back soon so I found a 40,000 btu propane one on the internet brand new for $64 shipped to my door. It works real nice plus I can move it around real easy and direct it right were I need it. It was in the 20's outside and windy tonight and with the stove stoked and this guy going intermittently it was about 68 in the garage.

I got an email from the foam guy today and the foam shipped on the 19th ups ground so it should be here in PA from Cali any day!

Gotta go do powerpoint now:confused:

Nice job on the floor. What kind of wax did you use over the screws? I dont want to burry my screws that hold the cap on. Keep up the pace and you will be on the water in spring.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks guys. Skibum I don't know if it was really wax- it was the mold release stuff that came with my seacast. I thought about doing the same thing with my deck screws. That way you can take measurements and keep them for future reference in case you ever have to take the deck up again. In my case my grandkids will hopefully be the next ones to pull it up:)
