She did get banged up a little didn't she ! Glad you got her ship shape again Wood !
Are you going to use the tilt on the trailor this time ? My trailor has the tilt on it and I'm not sure if you should use every time you pull the boat out. I guess it depends on the water level at the ramp..
Have fun and be safe !

I spoke with Andgott about this ^^^. He has the exact same Gator Trailer. He informed me that these trailers were manufactured with the intention of loading your boat from the Beach or shore and therefore you should ALWAYS load from the Tilt Position. Not sure about your particular trailer, but you can BET THE FARM that this Old Dumb OKIE will be loading the BF with the Gator TILTED from now own regardless of the ramp conditions. I will NOT be making THAT mistake again. Having looked at the trailer and studied it I can now fully understand the reasoning behind this. I remember when I was a kid my uncle Always beached the boat and then tilted his trailer and winched it right up on to it. No Ramp.

Good to see you back in action woody! A pic of the tilt-trailer loading would be good... maybe your Admirable can take one while you winch the BF on? All the best for the resplash, but 106 F... sheesh that's hot! :p

Glad to see that life has quit throwing you some curve balls for the time being.... I know you did a top notch job on those repairs (and I bet she's better than before).

Hoping the wind stays at your back for awhile... Best to you and your fam!

Yeah, I cleaned out the box, AND, the BF is Ship Shape again. Honey Do's are done, LIFE issues are back to normal, soo.... barring any OTHER unforseen issues there will be a Flamingo on the Water this weekend. Here's what I had to do...

Just some basic deep scratches, no biggee.

These were worse but still not to much of an issue, but....

Photo0441.jpg

Then we really hit metal on the trailer and got into the wood in the keel. Soo... I let her dry out for a month while I was dealing with LIFE and then finally last week I ground it all down, mixed up some PB and reformed the keel, layed some CSM and 1708, Sanded, Mixed up some of my Fairing mixture with glass bubbles sanded smooth with 180 grit, 3 coats of Valspar Primer, and 3 Coats of Valspar Paint with hardener and she's good as new. I'll post pics tonite of what she looks like now. Did not take pics of the repairs. With the temps in the 100's I was a little busy since I was buy myself. FYI Since this was and upside down repeair, I made the patch on a piece of plastic(CSM, CSM, 1708, CSM, 1708, CSM), wetted it out and then put in place. Used a Bondo spreader to kinda squeegee it all into place an smooth it out. In 5 mins with the heat, I was able to peel the plastic off and it was perfect. No air bubbles and pretty much no major lumbs or bumbs. Sanding and Fairing was pretty simple. I must say the Pettit EasyPoxy paint held up very well. But the Valspar, IMHO is just as good and for 1/2 the price. The Valspar paint is just a shade whiter than the Pettit and you might be able to see that when I post the final pics tonite. Not so bad that it make me want to paint the entire hull. My wife is pretty picky and even she said it was almost un-noticeable. I'll let you all be the judge. Supposed to be 106? tomorrow on my day off. Sure wish I had my new Bimini Top sewn.!!! Prolly come home lookin like a Cooked Lobster!!!!

Ahhh! Getting back to normal (and on the water) - Priceless

So, you brought up your upside down repair. I haven't seen any discussions here on iboats about this topic. I had one upside down spot I tried early on in my project and it was a disaster. I have a number of upside down spots and hope this is the solution I need. But, it brings up some questions.

You mentioned CSM, CSM, 1708, CSM, 1708, CSM.

1) I assume you did all those layers at the same time. Bet you had to move fast.

2) I assume the 2 layers of CSM together were against the plastic and ended up on the outside of the repair and the single layer of CSM was against the boat.

3) I assume the whole sheet was still wet and pliable when you put it on the boat.

4) Did you do anything to hold the package tight in place while it cured?

5) Any other upside down tips you can provide?

Sea ya...

Good to see you got her patched up wood. In line with Capt KB's question, do the layers get determined by the thickness of the void you need to fill?

To answer your "Upside Down" repair questions. CKB, you are spot on withhow the patch was created. Plastic first then the largest CSM patch layed down then the next to largest then 1708 etc... I Mixed the resin and Poured it over the "Patch" and used a chip brush to dab it into the layers and get them all saturated and wet out. I then picked up the plastic with the patch and placed it on the keel and as I said used a Bondo spreader to spread it out using the plastic as the outer layer of the patch. The resin would ooze out the edges of the plastic and drip down. Use my hand and fingers to also mold things in place a bit. It only took about 5 mins for the resin to start to kick enough to stay in place and then the spreader could really work well in smoothing it all out. I then removed the plastic and it peeled right off. Used the spreader to remove as much of the excess resin as possible. Troop, you to are correct in that the amount you grind and "Dish Out" determines the thickness of the "Patch" and the number of layers you'll need. Mine was pretty close cuz after the final sanding I needed very little fairing material to bring her back to fair. These pics are not very good because...We actually had some thunderstorms and rain this evening so it was overcast and the lighting was bad. I can live with the slight Paint difference. It actually looks worse in the picture than in person.

Re: 1962 Lonestar "Flamingo" - I finally Started w/pics

I've been hanging over at the Ms Peachtree thread so I may have a bit of a contact buzz, but I can't see a color shift on either of those 2 pix.

Looks great from WV:)

I kind of struggled w/ the 1st launch of the Jet, yesterday from a gator trailer. Dipped the trailer hitch:facepalm: Way too deep for launch or recovery.

That came out real good if you ask me. The color doesn't look to be any different, but the shine makes it so you can see where you did the work. Think it will dull out a little with time and no one will be the wiser?

Mike,

Nice work on the scuffs and scratches, nice to be able to handle this kind of cosmetic stuff. May all your launches be worry free moving forward.

Nice to see ya got her all fixed up, I know the perfect lake to go get her wet on! The color is undetectable save for the shine difference, and once ya get a season and a few wax jobs on her, she will even out
