Thanks BD, I'm really thinking I"m gunna have to take the head off to make sure and if that's the case I'm gunna wait and do that this winter. I'm gunna take her out next Friday for a test run to make sure shes cooling as she should and then I'll run her the a few more times till it's time to put her up for the season and then the head's coming off. If the gasket tears or a bolt shears then I'll have plenty of time to fuss with it. Any tips or tricks to maybe help ensure you don't shear a head bolt or tear the head gasket??

If taking the head off I myself would not reuse that head gasket even if it were intact. Just too risky for me. Can try some heat around the head, remember you don't want to heat the bolt and then an impact tool. The ones you hit with a hammer will be enough.

Thanks Bonz! My nipple for the cowl just showed up today so maybe I'll be Wood's test dummy instead.

I'm with Bonz, If you're going to wait for winter to do it get a new gasket for the task. Ease into the bolts by hand and if they don't seem like they want to move sometimes going just a bit snugger will free the bolt enough to rock it to loosen it.

And on the tin party barge - Even I didn't need JB to point out the tiller handle so it's obvious you stand back there and look through the back door, out the front door, and over the porch to drive.

Looks like the family saved the day. The house looks great. Lawn surfin looks like fun as well. You have a great looking family. Glad they could help fix the painters mess. Good luck at the lake if you go tomorrow.

I have to post this on last pic of the best helper a PoPo could have painting his house. She's the latest member of our family and her birthday is next weekend when she'll be 2 years old. My adorable little Maggie Mae...

Hey Mike! I liked the photo above ^^^^^^^^, but I don't know if it will show up or not. Grand Kids are THE BEST! Looks like you got a real good First Mate in the making.

I was down close to you again while headed to Denton and the wife said "lets run 69 Highway since she had never been that far south. Wish I hadn't since there were towns about a thousand yards after you just got back up to speed. I had forgotten all about that. There was also road construction and an end dump pulled back onto the highway in front of us and now we have three nice chips in our windshield.

Coming back we came through OK City, but it was too late to holler atcha!

Maybe I can make a connection with you sometime. I'd really like to meet one of my idols!

Wish I could help with the V-4 or the painting thing!

I dunno about yard surfing looks more like a "dry" run at tubing to me. lol

Glad you got the house taken care of and you got to love the determination of the young one when they are set to a helpful task.

All my projects are pretty much caught up and I been thinking...I KNOW that's dangerous but, this popped up 30 miles away. I may go take a look. I KNOW it's over on the DARK SIDE, but I like the LOOK!!!! Only bad thing is I think the motor is another one of those darn Electric Shifters!!!!!:blue:

So you tell them that you'll give them $450 and they can keep the engine!

Well, I blew up the pic as best I could to see the shifter and it looks like it's only got on handle. It may be a Single throw Manual shifter but usually the Old Evinrude Manual shifters had two handles. I think you're right about it being of the 70's vintage. I believe it to be a 72' 50 hp and yes they were still making the HydroElectric Shift models in 72'. I tried calling the guy but got voice mail. I'll try again tonight. The Admiral is gunna SHOOT ME!!!
