Well, NO Lake time today. Had a BAD DAY! Yesterday!!! Non Boat Related. Hired some painters to paint the house. Long story short they started the job, went to lunch and never came back!!!! What a Mess!!!! Left Paint cans open, Brushes and rollers dried out etc... I am NOT a Happy Camper. Won't answer my calls of COURSE!!! I gave them an initial deposit so I'm not sure what I'm gunna do or if it's gunna be worth going after them. Admiral is VERY UPSET!!! I have a guy with GREAT REFERences that by BIL has used in the past coming over this afternoon to give me a bid to finish the job. Hopefully HE will get the job done!!! I'm gunna try to take the BF to the lake after work tommorow evening with my Friend Josh. I'll keep you posted. I may put her on the muffs tonite and see if she'll pump water better than she did before. Thanks for everyones looking in on this ODO!!!!

Well, the BIL reference didn't work out sooo, Looks like I'm gunna be doin some House Paintin in the evenings for the next week or so to try and recoup my losses. My SIL and Daughter are coming next weekend to help finish up. Wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't trying to "Two Tone" the house....Dark green siding with Cream colored trim. Lots of "Cutting In" work

Wood, I hate hearing what those bums did. Knowing now what kind of scum bags they are they would have made a mess of your home if they would have finished. The good thing is you know you will do it right and it will look great.

Thanks to all who have tried to ease the pain. I really do try to be trusting and gracious to everyone I meet. Never take advantage of anyone intentionally. This is only the 2nd time I've had someone do something like this to me and it just really upsets me that I let it happen again. Took almost 25 years but it did happen again. I guess now that I'm becoming a "Senior Citizen" I'm gunna have to be more careful!!!!:D;) They're out to get me!!!!

OK, for all you MEK-A-NEKS out there, the Old Dumb Okie needs some HEP!!!! I want to install the Tell-Tale in my motor. I got all the parts and according to the link I posted I can drill into the Cylinder block behind the coil Brackets.

V-4 blocks
The V-4 configuration presents some interesting issues for locating the indicator outlet. Typically the V-4s run hot on the starboard side. That's because of a tendency to develop air pockets high up on cylinder #1. By adding the indicator outlet to the top of the water jacket above cylinder #1 you provide an opportunity to "burp" any air out of the system and fix this issue. On many of the '73-'77 V-4 blocks there's a cast-in round boss just perfect for locating the indicator outlet. If you don't happen to have that boss, you can go in through the top, just behind the coil brackets also.

My motor does not have the Cast-in Boss (Blue Circle) so I'll be drilling in behind the coil brackets. My brackets are located about where the green circle is. My question is, do you think I need to remove the Head so I can see where to drill the hole for the elbow nipple, or can I just center it in the block and drill till I break thru the wall? Not sure how far back I can go to drill the hole. I know to grease the bit so no metal flake fall down inside the hole. I'm NOT a MEK-A-NEK but I do have a Torque Wrench and the Service Manual so I think I can take it off and put it back on but I take the risk of tearing a gasket and or busting a bolt in the process. Is there anything else I need to worry about or be aware of. I hate to Mess with something that's not necessary, but I don't want to take the chance of drilling in the wrong spot either. I will make a jig to ensure I drill a straight hole and tap it properly as well.

All comments and advice are WELCOME!!!!

Sounds like you know the hazards of the taking the head off

I'm about to do the same to my 50 I keep trying to find a pic or something to see just how far the jacket goes as I'm sure that's your fear too. The upside of mine is that there is nothing mounted up there.

I would think if you mark it so it just clears the coils then remove them for the actual process you should be ok. Drilling by the red dot is probably even better than the side boss if it had one.

That said notice that I'm waiting to see how yours comes out.

Well I don't have a V4 sitting here but I do have a 50hp sitting with the head off and can tell you that the water jacket on the 50hp is approximately 2" deep from the head surface.

Good luck guys!
