Totally understandable, especially with a boat like that!!!!!
I am so jealous everytime I open your thread It just about kills me. If I ever find a boat like that my bank account is in serious trouble.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

It's hard to tell from the pictures but I think you need to get that motor deeper. A few posts back you had pictures of the lower unit with the water pump. Picture were the pump is located in the lower and fill to above that level. Pump should be under water to prime itself.

The last set of pictures you posted, the second one of the group shows were the water should be exiting from and it should be a heavy mist/spray.

Try and get it deeper then try it again. May need a new water pump impellar.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Giving an update... I have everything back together after rebuild of carb. but still having problems. I am leaving for my anniversary trip into Canada on the motorcycle. Maybe little time on the road I will figure out what is happening.. I am getting the motor to turn over, but only with choke on full. If I turn choke off after it starts or give it throttle it dies. must be something I did. Hmmm like I said before. I am sure not a mechanic! better stay with my career that I have.. lol.. If anyone has any Ideas... Im open for suggestions. I did go see a small engine mechanic today. .. I saw his sign down the road saying boat motor repair. NOPE HE IS NOT TOUCHING IT! the guy's garage was a mess with parts laying everywhere and with only one boat motor which i saw was torn down sitting on stand in pieces. I asked for referance and he said he could not find his reciepts.. Just a very bad feeling. anyways.. I'm taking some time away from the boat and going to spend some time with the wife.. You can watch my trip at

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

I guess vacation is what I needed. I came home last Monday and started tinkering around again with the boat motor. I took the carb apart and double checked what I did and set the Needles to what was recommended on the FAQ site. Then I took the lower unit off and then realized I did not have the Coolant lines aligned.. I put everything back together pulled the boat out of the garage this morning and squirted a little Carb cleaner in the throat and crossed my fingers and ......

She started up and ran pretty good.. Was smoking pretty hard after awhile but I read somewhere on here that it will smoke hard in a bucket ..It didnt seem to be overheating at all. So I packed things up and moved it down to the lake with Electric troller inside just incase. I also brought my son for support..

Again, No problems starting and runs good at Idle. Took it for a lap around the lake..

She ran pretty good at high speed but felt like she was trying at times. At one point she just took off. I was thinking o,k something got cleaned out and then it died. At first I thought alright only 3 gallon tank maybe I am going through the fuel but then I realized the vent was closed and the plastic fuel tank was sucking in on its self. Released the vent and off we go again. Pretty happy.. Stupid mistake on my part..:p Back to the garage and start on next phase.

Hey MT,

Glad you're back at it, and glad she's running for you. That's always a load off. Now you can take care of all the nicities and KNOW that when she's gleaming like a New penney that she will get you where you want to go. Keep the pics coming.

I'm just sayin...:D

WoodonGlass,

It was a good feeling.. Mechanical stuff is not one of my strengths.. I was really happy when she sat there idling without cutting out..:):):):)

With 1959 Evinrude running fine.. I started working on the Transom.. I pulled everything off the back and start working on the transom. I did not find any rot when pulling items off so I am good there... I started sanding and cleaning up the wood. One of the items I worked on last night was the kicker mount.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Just plugging around in the garage and working on the boat today.. Went down to the Ace Hardware today and was looking around and found a polish I thought I would try on the Aluminum Trim. I have been messing around with liquid polish but the stuff is messy and really was not getting the final look I was looking for. So I picked a can of Never Dul.. This stuff works pretty good. Here is before and After pics.

Late this afternoon, I started working on the windshield. Cleaned the seal and polished up the windows. They have a small crack on both sides at the bend but you don't notice them unless really checking them out.

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

I need some advise... I had a transom pad on the boat and it is pretty beat up.. I would like to replace it or do something different anyone have any suggestions... Do I get an aluminum plate made up to place over the transom or does anyone know where to find a transom pad like the pics below..Also how much vibration will be taken out with rubber vs. Aluminum plate.. I have found some on the internet like Moeller pad.. but it does not look as thick as one I had.. Any ideas here?

Re: Anyone Know on this one?

Well my .02 would be to fabricate an aluminum plate and Polish it to a Chrome finish!!!! But then again that's just me and I may be prejudice due to my project.:p But then again, it might look pretty darn good too!! You could even use some 3m 5200 to bond some rubber to the back of the aluminum if you wanted to maintain the padding effect. Looks like a rubber welcome mat might work. Check at HD or Lowes or at an industrial flooring supply.

I'm just sayin...:D
