Sam, that is gonna be one Beautiful looking boat. I have to agree with WOG, no stain, just varnish! But I sure don't envy you doing all of that scraping!

Looks great Sam! Hmmmm sawmill....I am a sucker for those! I already have more lumber than I can use, but you never have enough right?

I ran out of stripper .. I’ll pick more up tomorrow..
Ya know I really need some sort of deck to walk on ..
I was thinking that I might stop by a local cypress mill that I know of and get them to mill some cypress slats to make a deck from . Maybe even make a set of cypress oars ..;)
Just a thought ...

NOW you're talking. I would for SURE recommend a slatted deck. Clear Red Cedar would look great too!! How much is Cypress per board ft?

Kc ,I think there is an episode of South Park that would sum up how that would go ..
Not sure on the cost of the cypress I will have to stop by or call them ..
Almost have all the green paint gone .. About a 2x2 section left then it’s up in the bow under the cap ...
Really looking forward to that ..

Not sure what all this means but it appears cypress is stronger than http://floridacypress.com/faq/cypress-technicals/

What thickness do you think I can get away with for the deck ? I do have those bolts on top of the stringers I will need to deal with .. If I run the deck out close to the sides how should I support it ? If a cleat of sorts could it lay right on the hull ?
Think it might rub the hull bad over time . Idk . Maybe epoxy a solid stringer to catch the edge ..

Got the initial scraping done in the bow area . Huge pita ! Every time I get into position and start to scrape my butt hold would break loose and I slip down the hill ..... Then the buggery scrapings would fall down and I end up putting my elbows in it ..
then that starts to burn rather quickly .. :violin:
I got the Admiral to pick up a rubber bath mat from the dollar store .. Maybe that will help with the slipping ...

I also did a little test of the filler I picked up to see how it would look ..
I wiped it down with a little paint thinner to see roughly how it would look after varnish .. 4ECCD590-6371-4C45-A8E4-79E8CA626056.jpeg

That is looking too good to ever use it - may need to donate it to a museum :)

I have no idea what those are Sam, but looks like they might be made of Padauk, very pretty lumber. I will be putting the ASI together on the screw plug spacing. Glad you posted the pic, it will make red lining it much easier :D

Seriously, very nice looking work!

Arch those pieces are made of some type of plywood . About 3/16” thick and about 2’ long ..
Really has me baffled on what there for ...

Looks great Sam!....those pieces look like the contour of the hull bottom?...maybe they were used as brackets for steering cables?...maybe move them around the hull like a puzzle piece to see where they fit?
