Looking good Sam!!! Your Boat is made from Marine Plywood. They use Resorcinol back in the day to glue the laminations. Acetone or most any solvent will not effect it. The stain only penetrates the first 1/16" wood layer. You can use just about anything you want and it won't delaminate. WATER is the main enemy of any wood. Keep up the good work

Yep , I’ve been cheating and using this .http://www.jasco-help.com/product/premium-paint-epoxy-remover
Works really well and I can’t see where it’s been hurting the veneer at all .. I used it on the bottom to take it down to the wood .. The staples used in the veneer cold molded process that stick though are a real pain ...

Time to quit for the day .. Fla/Tenn on espn ..
Got a little bit done ..

Here is the bunk damage on the hull . I guess sand it down and a few layers of cloth and epoxy will do the trick ..

You can see the staples I was fussing about .
Any tips on removing the little brads holding the plates on ..
I tried getting up under the plate but it started to tear the aluminum..
Drill bit ?

Thanks Kc, oldrem ! Micky , still debating in my head as I strip the varnish on going back no stain .. I guess it will depend on if I can get all the old stain off .. It’s really a tough job to remove it all ..:faint2:
Zool , yes I guess you could call this a really good “barn find” .. For a first go at any kind of a wooden boat restoration I couldn’t have asked for a better candidate to get the feet wet on .. :joyous:

Taking the paint off is like tearing out an old carpet to find nice hardwood floors underneath.. CDB4DD6A-2759-4E99-8628-D53DF5BE7ABF.jpeg7726DDE1-A909-48B8-AE04-C225AA9B96A0.jpeg

I ran out of stripper .. I’ll pick more up tomorrow..
Ya know I really need some sort of deck to walk on ..
I was thinking that I might stop by a local cypress mill that I know of and get them to mill some cypress slats to make a deck from . Maybe even make a set of cypress oars ..;)
Just a thought ...
