PERFECT for an SS. NICE find!!

The only other option was an I/O dash out of a later model.

John, you gotta read more than the last page :p

I had to return those as I ended up not having room enough for lounges and jumps. I went with buckets and jumps. They were hella-nice though!
hey EZ, i ws wondering what kind of pedestal base and height did you go with. thanks man!

Hey Ez, great to see your weather is allowing you an early start on the SS. Nice to get all the little things done, that is a real good idea for the gauges. For your Bimini top look into a set of aluminum rear supports similar to these http://www.convertex.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=42 they make set up easier and the top more stable. Plus you can boot it and store in the upright position. I put this set up on my Buddies SS and it looks and works great.

EZ,

Nice work on the bimini top you put on. It really makes the boat look complete and classy. I almost bought my bimini from the same guy you did but he didn't have my size in the color I wanted. So I used another seller. I really like that cluster guage also. I cannot wait to see that mounted in the dash.

Thanks for your honest opinions on the Easypoxy. I read your thread and the problems you experienced with it and decided to change my mind from Easypoxy to the Interlux Perfection before I painted my boat. The perfection paint is extremely durable. I am constantly crashing and smashing things into my boat and no scratches or marks. Really nice stuff.

Looks great. Sorry you had bad luck with the Easypoxy but it's hard to see in the pics. I'm committed to it now, it's sitting and waiting in the cellar. When it's all finished I'll let you all know what I think.

Re: 18' Starcraft SuperSport restoration

Gents I used some ALuminum primer that is used in painting aluminum planes. I used it on all of my internal parts and it worked great. Most primers for Aluminum are an aluminum oxide paint. Look for that as a primer before painting.

T

I was there from '95-99!!! I was an EET major.

Guys, I used Easypoxy. It sucks. What I would use the next time is Rustoleum. Doesn't matter what kind: regular, professional, marine. I'd first go with etching primer then their clean metal primer. BEWARE of their "aluminum primer". That stuff is weird. If you read the can it's latex. http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=43 That cannot be a good idea. I think Dale used it and have to strip it off again. I forget if that was him or someone else. Anyway, etching primer, rusto clean metal primer, rusto top coat. That's what I'd do.

But ask yourself, would you really take paint advice from me? :p

Re: 18' Starcraft SuperSport restoration

I really like that gauge! I was thinking on the best way to have a couple gauges there, and that might be the best way to do it when I can get the money for it (bottom feeder right now) :D. I was also thinking of making the dash part a bit bigger like some of the larger Starcrafts have, but that would take out more visibility out of the already small windsheild. I will be looking forward to see how you like the gauge and how it works for ya!

Most of the lobster boats here are using the interlux paint 2 part. since most pull 300-1200 traps every few days surprisingly the paint still holds for at least 2 years of sand wood and metal trap beatings.

Little bit of progress. Got the carpentry mostly done for my stern casting box.

Cut out so it will fit around my fuel tank. I put the same cutout on both sides because I figured I may want to run wires or hoses through the other side or something someday.

Plan right now is for the sides to be vinyled, and the top carpeted. The wood will be porch painted prior to being covered. I have cupholder inserts to go into the top as well when I mount the pedestal.

Little more work done on the stern box.

Lots of storage now created

My jump seats fold all way down so I can still access the area behind them. Even more storage.

I like it. This thing is built tough. The opposite of my bow deck. I ordered a yard of 72" wide Nautolex and adhesive tonight to do the sides. The top will be carpeted and I already have enough of that.

On the fence......it might be too tall. Trying to decide whether I want to hack a couple inches off it. The idea behind it being as tall as it is was so the user's feet could swing over the splashwell. You don't have this issue with newer boats.

I say shorten it, otherwise it looks like your trying to make your boat look like an I/O and I don't think that's the look your going for. :p

Re: 18' Starcraft SuperSport restoration

I'm leaning that way. I'd imagine I'd probably be facing toward either side more often than directly backwards when fishing so the top of the splashwell might be as big a deal as I think. Heck on some of the new ones I'm looking at online right now, if you faced directly back your feet would be IN the splashwell. I'll check it out again tomorrow. Got plenty of time before the rest of my materials arrive.

That box is looking pretty nice, I really like the storage it gives you there, huge bonus.

I'd leave it that height to not lose any of the storage space, but maybe just do whatever will look the best.

It does look a little bit like a doghouse for an 80hp Mercruiser:D
