I guess I'll be looking for this stuff...

3M Scotch-Weld Structural Plastic Adhesive DP-8005

That's the stuff. Better speak with your financial adviser first

great day getting the boat, just made me sad to see the paint after all the work that was put into it.. The Bimini is sweet!! and there is nothing like the smell of a two stroke on a cold spring day!!

I know what you mean. The stuff is ridiculously priced for 35 ml. It will be bolted in place above the waterline but I want to only do this once if I can.

The real trick is to bolt the starboard/cutting board material above the waterline, but so that enough of it hangs down to mount the transducers or speed wheel properly.

That way you aren't creating any new thru-hull holes at all below the waterline.

I need to get a bimini like that one, it's from iboats right?

Love the de-winterization for outboards...it consists of basically "finding the boat key" :D

Ez sorry to hear about your paint dilema. When I did the MonArk (almost your twin), I hemmed and hawed but finally convinced myself to use the Interlux Perfection. It's expensive stuff but if you only have to do it once, it's well worth saving for.

Guess what kind of paint they're putting on my JetCraft hull...... None, nada, zip... I don't think your's would look right all shiny like that.

Yeah this is why I basically tell people, go with Rustoleum or step up to a two-part paint. Skip all the crap in between.

EZ, regardless of the paint it's still a nice rig! When I started poking around awhile back, lookingfor 18' SS info, it was your thread that led me here. Couldn't believe what you did with her! The paint will work itself out, no worries. Hey, you said you went to school up here in Erie- mind if I ask where & when? My son went to Behrend back in '96-'98. As far as winter goes- we last saw the grass back in early November till just a week ago, over 130" here in Mudville!! BTW, in case I didn't mention it- nice rig, real nice rig...

Hey EZ, which Rustoleum did you go with? I tried to find it but must have missed it somewhere. I am looking to start buying that kind of stuff a bit at a time so when the time is right I will have it. And yes, very nice boat there budy.

OK, thanks wood. That is exactly what I wanted to know and am now reading the label from the website so I know what to do and what primer to get as well.

My son went to Behrend back in '96-'98.

I was there from '95-99!!! I was an EET major.

Guys, I used Easypoxy. It sucks. What I would use the next time is Rustoleum. Doesn't matter what kind: regular, professional, marine. I'd first go with etching primer then their clean metal primer. BEWARE of their "aluminum primer". That stuff is weird. If you read the can it's latex. http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=43 That cannot be a good idea. I think Dale used it and have to strip it off again. I forget if that was him or someone else. Anyway, etching primer, rusto clean metal primer, rusto top coat. That's what I'd do.

But ask yourself, would you really take paint advice from me? :p

Yea I would because you have learned from the hard knocks of life and crappy paint.

I forgot you had used easypoxy and that it was CBK that did the pasture test:eek: with rusto.

I was also reading their information about the primer and it just did not seem right to me either. So I was going to go with what you suggested anyway and use the etching primer, rusto clean metal primer and the rusto top coat.

I went to HF yesterday and got a couple of spray gun for cheap with a 2 year warrenty:cool:. So I am working on getting things ready and then will see if I can paint with a sprayer or not.

Sounds good Kelly. Also, I painted my Jupiter with Rustoleum. I used rattle cans which was another disaster however, the paint was very durable.

Just checked out your whole restoration. Very nice job. You gave me some good ideas for the Sylvan that is pretty much same layout.

Sorry to hear about the paint ez but don't think the fish will care:) I really like the bimini it looks great and is completely out of the way when not in use . I'm almost definitely going with rusto mainly because no matter how much I spend on paint I will find a way to mess it up:D The main reason I went with an 18' instead of something bigger is I know I will run her in to a beach or decide to fish some of my old stump and boulder infested fishing holes and unless the paint is bulletproof it won't last for me anyway. As long as it sticks well and dries reasonably hard I plan to use it abuse it and touch it up until they invent something yooperproof:)

yooper, that's one of the reasons I love an aluminum hull. I'm not afraid to whack it into things.

Re: 18' Starcraft SuperSport restoration

Since I have officially ordered this and I don't have to worry about any of you scarfing them up before I can get one....I can tell you about the awesome gauges I just got. As you know, the SS has VERY little dashboard space. I had already decided that I wasn't going to have a speedo as they are pretty well worthless and not worth the room or the complication. I did, however, want a tach and a fuel gauge for sure and a trim and volt gauge would be nice. I was browsing GLS and when I found this thing I was PSYCHED!!!!!!!!!

https://greatlakesskipper.com/produ...fuel-temp-trim-volt-boat-gauge-wout-logo.html

My concern was being able to make the temp part work with my outboard. I posted here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=466576 and got some answers. Bob_VT emailed me some great info that I added to that thread. I can't wait to get that thing hooked up. I will be so pumped if it all works. It would have super awesome if I could have found a matching tach but no dice. So I ordered this one from Overtons:

Whilst I was on Overtons, I figured I may as well order the pedestals for my fishing chairs. I got these http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro..._KingPin_Hi_Lo_Package&aID=601C7&merchID=4006 because that seemed really cheap to me for all three pieces which I need. These are just the removable fishing chairs so they don't need to be anything special. I guess now that I've ordered the pedestals, I better get busy building my stern casting box and bow insert.

I have spent a great deal of time in Escanaba and I think I can safely say that I don't think anything is truly "Yooper Proof",.......................lol,...
