What kind of life do you think can be had from a correct rusto job? This boat will sit in the water maybe one week a year. I don't want paint that doesn't get hard.

Nothing happened to the Rusto on my Jupiter last year when it sat in salt water for a week at the shore. It wasn't on the bottom but it was on the sides which were at least partially submerged.

Did the rusto seem to get good and hard?

Yeah I didn't have any softness with that. I also believe there are some hardening additives you can use with Rusto? Maybe something to look into.

Thanks for the replies. I might have to pick some rusto up and do some experimenting on some scrap aluminum.

Despite the cool weather I decided to bring the boat home from winter storage today. It was a bright and sunny day so even though it was a little cold, I was able to get some work done on it. I installed my bimini top and my fish finder transducer and head unit. I didn't get it wired though. I am absolutely THRILLED with my bimini. It is the perfect size. You can pretty much walk from front to back without ducking, and it lays down perfectly behind the rear seat when not in use. Love it.

Why do these damn things always need new holes? Oh well. At least there isn't wood behind there. I didn't bother sealing them at the moment because I want to make sure the height is right first and that everything is working. I'll later back the screws out a bit and seal them.

Brennan seemed pleased with the progress

As you can see, Easypoxy is great paint  That isn't even the worst part. Not by a long shot. I'm hiding that from you. Tim Fives was with me today for the retrieval and was rather distressed about the condition of my paint job. I've made peace with it. However, at his encouragement, when it gets warmer, I'll roll some more blue over the bad spots and buy some darn fenders.

Fired the motor up and it started quickly and ran well and idled great. There's really nothing I need to do to it prior to being able to go for a ride. (take that I/O guys :p)

That bimini looks great, EZ. Keep you very well shaded on those lazy summer days. Looking great.

Might I be so bold as to suggest looking into a Preval spray system for your "Touch Ups" Might make things easier to blend. Might be worth a look and they are really quite inexpensive and work GREAT!!! I know you are a "TIN MAN" but... Just in case you ever need to you can even use em to shoot Gelcoat.

Thanks Wood but I don't spray. Seriously. Ever. Never, ever, ever. Every time I do, things go horribly wrong. Actually, I think really, anytime I paint anything it goes horribly wrong.

Oh, I see, I did not realize!!!! Well hopefully the "Do Over" will produce better results, and like you said, a set of good "Fenders" won't hurt either!

We had a fairly mild winter in south central PA. It seemed kinda bad for a while cuz a number of storms hit all at once in a couple week period, but overall, we had very little snow.

I'm doing a big piece of starboard to mount the transducer to etc. It will be flamed on the backside, bolted above the waterline, a dove tail router bit will make grooves on the backside of the plate and then 5200'd in place.

I probably should use the Cabelas board as it will probably take the 5200 better.

Re: 18' Starcraft SuperSport restoration

sprintst, I sent you a PM but for everyone's benefit, 5200 will not stick to starboard. Not even a little bit. I tried it, and it failed within 2 days.
