My suggestion for the ice chest drain is an inline pump and use the bilge pump out hole with a "T" fitting and a back flow valve on the bilge line. Less holes in the boat is always better :D Love the trailer work

I love the idea of the back flow valve and T fitting. I gotta remember that in 6 months.

Can't wait for the surprise on the wire management.

BTW finally started my thread.

Here's a couple pics of today?s work. I'm going to start out by saying I am no longer going to try to predict when the fenders will be done! They are close....they just need some detail work....I have used almost a gallon of bondo on them!

My wire management idea was actually something I had done before....weld nuts to the frame and run the wire through them. It works great, but I'm still not sure about the "look".....looks more like something you would see on an oilfield service trailer or something!

I also worked on the seat / ice chest mock up. I made the ice chest wider to accommodate taller bottles laying on their side. It's getting a little bulky, but keeping the beer cold is what is important right?

Here is a shot of some of the black walnut I have ....I'll get one of the hickory for you Mick.

archbuilder,
It's looking pretty good.
I'll bet you have more bondo in the trash then on the fender. :p
I know that's how bondo works, put it on sand it off, over and over again.
I would almost give one of my. Well you get my meaning. Very nice piece.
Keep up the great work.

You done yet?!!!!? Looking good man. Looks like we are getting more snow on Tuesday. I know what you are going through on the bondo.

Question. are you using the finishing putty to fill in the pinholes that the bondo leaves? It might make you life easier.

I have some glazing putty, but I just haven't gotten to that yet. I more or less just got the "shape" right on them yesterday. I still need to finish up shaping the bottoms of them where I had them clamped down. Once I have that finished I should be ready for primer!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

I was watching Frisco's video and remembered that I had a wiring diagram that I found on the net. I thought I would post it.....it illistrates a basic layout that I'm using as a starting point. I think before I dive off into it, I'll draw up a diagram so that I have a plan.

that looks like a solid start for wiring......and those fenders are coming along slick....
Did you weld them fully or just tacks? (I mighta missed that pic)

the NESCHER idea for the paint scheme should look excellent

neat idea using the welded 1/4 20 nuts for wiring holds!

I just tack welded them....you start getting a lot of distortion if you fully weld them. I'm headed out to wade through the snow right now to rethink the ice chest / seating....came up with a new idea today! :D

Wow! Thanks Vegas! That gives me inspiration to get this thing done! I just smeared more bondo on the fenders.....I just have a little bit at the bottom to finish up!

I like the nuts welded on there- they look cool. You can use it as a theme too... If anyone asks about them you can say you have to be a little "nuts" to undertake boat restoration projects like these!
You can come up anytime to help with the seacast- I'll even put a futon out in the garage for ya right next to the stove so you have a place to stay!

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore

Well I finished the bondo on the fenders tonight....they are finally ready for primer! Now all I need is a decent day to primer them....and of course it?s cold for the next week! :(

I also worked on the ice chest / back seat some.....more or less whacked on the mock up I had with a knife....think I'm getting close to something I'm happy with. Next step is to learn a little more about some upholstery techniques. I also want to do a drawing of the ice chest so I can start figuring out the details and get a particle board mock-up built.

By the way Mick, here is a close up of the hickory on the bench.

archbuilder,
That is beautiful wood. What stain and finish did you use on it?

Wow, that hickory did turn out nice! If we do move and build a new house I'm spending the extra cash for hickory floors!
Thanks for the help tonight- she's all wiped down and ready for round 2 tomorrow:D I didn't get in till 11:45- the wife wasn't to happy... but I did get the foam cut out:)
