Arch, I'd be glad to cook up some grub at the meetup. We just need to get somebody to come with us :)

Re: 16' Nescher ski boat complete restore- SPLASHED!!

I spent a little bit of time on the electrical issue tonight. I still think the fuse block is wigging out on me. Which sucks since I'm headed to the lake on Thursday morning for a 4 or 5 day get away (could be 4 or 5 day fry...its supposed to be 105 every day). Right now everything is working fine with the exception of the radio. I think it is unrelated, but maybe I got some weird voltage spike or something. One channel of the radio isn't playing and the remote isn't working. Which sucks since I have the remote mounted on the dash. At this point I'm thinking I will need to toss the radio and the fuse block, then see what happens.

One other note, one of my aluminum angles that is epoxied to the floor (attaches the seat to the floor) came loose. I had the same thing happen on the other side last year. I think the thermal expansion of the aluminum cause a shear fracture in the bond...sticks great to the glass on the floor, not so much to the aluminum. So it looks like I will be making some glass blocks for the deck / seat connection. I glued it back down with epoxy, hopefully that will hold out till this fall.

Your boat turned out really sharp! I hope you get your electrical issues sorted out.

Thanks, I think I just got a bad fuse block.....and the radio wasn't exactly the high end model! Who knows once I dig into it I may find out its something goofy

Just made it back from the lake, a great 4 day weekend! I finally found my electrical grimelin....a bad connection between the power wire and the terminal. That should be a quick fix, but a pain. I love it when you do things "right" and still have issues.

Yeah and when you wire it like a Lionel train layout at Christmas.....everything works

Thanks stratohammer, she is a lot of fun. Funny how that works EZ, my searay looked like a mad scientist wired it....and it worked fine, as long as you remembered to turn on the "wiper" switch to get the radio to play, lol. I did have one other issue, my aluminum angle that was holding one of my 6x9 speakers deguled itself. West systems is overselling their bonding strength to aluminum if you ask me. Looks like I will be making glass blocks for the speakers too. Actually I'm thinking of making a glass angle for the seats and speakers. I think that would epoxy to the deck well and solve a lot of my issues.

Arch,

Just curious, did you sand and acetone the aluminum prior to glassing??

yes with 24 grit..... I just think the thermal expansion is a bit much for the epoxy. It sticks great to the glass, not so much to the aluminum.

Guess so. Wonder what they did with the old boats that had aluminum stringers glassed to the hull. Glass appears to be holding on some of them after 50 + years.

glass vs poly, different characteristics. The forces we are talking about are also different, the stringers are primarily resisting bending forces. The epoxy has been resisting tensile and shear forces mostly in my application. Regardless, its time for me to try the fiberglass block method, so far it works like a champ on the gas tank.

lol! I would have to diagram it.....more or less the stringer works because its wrapped on all 6 sides...just like a wood stringer. Even if its rattling around loose, it cant go anywhere. The same is not true of the angles. Anyhow I will work on the fiberglass clip angles.

EZ, one of the engineers I use (he has 200 employees, great business guy) was a tackle for OU and Detroit....He had a guy tell him he was going to kick his little engineer a** one day on the phone.....funny the guy was as nice as can be when he showed up, lol! Karl can be a little imposing when he uncurls out of a full size truck.....makes you want to say "yes sir" a lot, lol

The motor alone ( if in decent shape ) would warrant a looksee on that boat.

I agree, I thought that was a good price. Makes me wonder if the deck and transom are gone. I went out to Lake Okmulgee yesterday and met up with Last Mohican, it was a great time. There was a meet there, I'm guessing about 50 boats or so. I got to take a zip around the lake in his Rebel, very fun boat! We are still planning the Eufaula meet up for anyone who is interested later this month. Just send me a PM.

Ok here is where we are meeting up next weekend. The cove is a nice sandy one more or less northwest from the dam. I'm planning on being there around 11:30 on Saturday. If you are planning on coming, let me know. I think BBO is planning on grilling some dogs and burgers.... A couple navigation tips, the point to the east extends quite a way out into the lake a few feet underwater. You will see some old trees that fell into the lake when the point eroded off. As you come in the cove there is a little bit of a sand bar on the port side, then another on the starboard side....more or less you just have to snake your way in....nice cove, I buzzed it at about 40 Sunday morning! Hope some of you can make it! If you have questions just PM me....there is no schedule, just hanging out and enjoying the water / sun!

Looks like a great cove Bobby. I wish we could make it. Dawn is just too busy to reschedule everyone that day. Since she could not get away I decided to take the opportunity to install a 4 post lift in my shop at the house. :) Have fun and be safe.
