The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
When looking at the 3M Keel Guard there's a lot of mentions by users that it's not a good adhesion to aluminum and that a painted or fiberglass surface was the best bet. Have you tried it on aluminum? If so, is it problematic?
My keel isn't smooth, it has a "lip" or "edge" that is raised...
I have an old aluminum runabout V hull where the protruding V "edge" has some nicks in it from, presumably, the previous owner(s) running it up on shore. I'm not sure how to better describe it and don't have it nearby to take pictures, but along the V there is a raised edge with some pieces...
I suppose so, I get that one one of my old trucks now and then, but if I don't have time it's easy enough to blow them off a bit and shorten the conversation. But, otherwise, it doesn't really bother me. I guess if it does I'll wear a shirt that says "don't ask me about my boat, go away!". 😂
Climbing over the windshield would be problematic, it's just a thin aluminum frame and too much weight in the wrong spot and I've ruined the frame. The picture is like what I have, not what I have. While I could add the no slip pads to the bow, I don't anticipate needing to be on the bow when...
I had a 78 Steury bass boat for years, they stopped branding boats Steury (or stopped making them, whichever) in 1980. It was a solid enough boat, but nothing particularly special.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just picked up a 62 Orlando Clipper, not because I equate old to...
I've seen lots of guys connect a 20' rope to the bow, push the boat off from the trailer and walk it to the dock and tie it off, then put the 20' of rope back in their truck, park it and come back.
This is probably a silly question, but I've never had a runabout like this before. What do most people do to anchor a closed bow boat with a windshield where you have no access to the bow? I don't have a picture of my boat handy, but the design is similar to the one pictured below.
I don't...
I recently got a Mercury 700 70HP motor and wanted to lock it when stored. Yes, I realize it won't stop everyone, but I'm looking to keep the honest people honest.
I purchased a Trimax lock, but it is way too small to cover the wing nuts on my motor, both the depth of the device as well as the...
This is a pretty old thread that keeps getting revived, but I recently acquired a 1962 Orland Clipper Zephyr runabout with at 62 Merc 700 70HP on it. It's been fun working to get it restored to it's original condition, although I'm adding in hidden conveniences that weren't even though of back...
It's actually the opposite, I have the Merc cans and want to refurbish them. I just found new seals and fuel level gauges on eBay so that is a good start in the right direction. I was only considering the OMC cans and changing the fuel line to be OMC on one side and Merc on the other if I am...
I wonder if you can mix-and match between the two connector styles, get a tank with the two nipples that the Evinrude's etc use, and then on the other end put the Mercury engine connector. That might allow me to rebuild this with those parts or buy new steel Evinrude cans and dress them like...
So have a steel fabricator do it for me out of stainless or do you mean that you would, literally, make them yourself from stainless? If the latter then I'm not quite sure if that is in my wheelhouse or not. $300 for fabricating brackets is a lot, but it's a windshield so I think it's...
I've been looking all over for these and can't locate them. They are off a 62 Orland Clipper and all but one are broken. Before I find an aluminum shop that can take the one good one to make a mold and cast me some new ones, I figured I would ask if anyone had seen this before or knew what...
I picked up a cool little 62 Orlando Clipper runabout with a Merc 700 and it came with two vintage steel 6gal gas cans. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to replace all the parts on the cans. I want to replace everything, the gauge and cap because I'm going to strip...
I probably really need to break down and buy a PDF version of my owners manual... That being said, though, what gear oil do I need to buy to change the oil in my motor? I've searched the net but cannot find anything for this particular outboard. I would also like to know how much - from what I...
