Mercury 9.8 2 stroke Thunderbolt egnition.

Do you have a manual? Here are the fuel pump instructions - as I stated before 1973-1974 as it says Mercury Marine not Kiekhaefer Mercury (1972).

Mercury 9.8 2 stroke Thunderbolt egnition.

1973-4; the serial Nr. should be in that space beside the troll lever; it looks like it's been scratched off in the photo. The fuel line is going directly into a filter on the side of the carb ( someone posted that this piece is NLA) and the fuel line might break it - originally there was a...

    Wiring Harness Meltdown

Did you have both charging systems feeding the battery(s) at the same time? that could have caused it. Usually on a dual install with 1 battery you have 1 motor's charging system disabled. Where does that wire come from?

    Metal Shavings

You can check the gear lash by having it in N remove the prop and gently turn the propshaft back and forth, if it moves a little with some tapping it should be OK. Merc 2006 50 hp 2 stroke carb tubing size help

Use drill bits pushed into the old lines, the one that fits is the I.D. size. The clamps used on auto transmission hoses look like a good choice.

    Mercury 20hp carb id

Heck I'd just pump up the bulb, check for leaks then try to start it, you should replace the waterpump impeller first and the fuel pump diaphragm as well. It looks like there's a part Nr. on the top of the mounting flange, that could help; according to my research the kits fit 1973 thru 1980...

    Stand-alone tilt/trim pump

Did you use a torque wrench to tighten the 4 bolts equally [115in./lbs; or 9.5 ft./lbs]? The manual also suggests using Liquid neoprene (rubber) around the edges to seal them.

    1989 xr4 150 that sat 3 years issues.

Ha I assume that those wires are resistor core whereas the OEM are solid core, this could be a major reason.
