    You should also check the point gap in the magneto and the cam wick is important too. Grease the top of the driveshaft and the propeller shaft and any bolts that hold the waterpump together, I use Anti-corrosion from Mercury.

    There should be a hole in the lower cowl pan on the port side, you have to get down and look up to see it; it could be clogged with debris. I would replace the impeller just to be safe.

    This is an original trim system with a pump in the boat and 2 rams at the side, the "gas assist" shocks were to prevent the motor from kicking too far out of the water and a mercury switch cut off the ignition for a second while the motor re-entered the water. PT was an option.

    The yellow wires are usually for the alternator and they go to the rectifier to charge the battery so they don't affect the ignition. If you can post a pic. of the "rectifier" it would help. You use the serial nr. to look for manuals and parts.

    When I'm checking an engine for fuel in the carbs I tilt the engine all the way up to the tilt limit then pump the bulb, fuel should run out of the carbs - if it does I tilt it back down and start it.
