    1989 Sea Ray 160

I have this same motor. The fuel pump is a small square block attached to the crankcase with two hoses connected. I would not buy a new one unless the casing is damaged. First thing to do is to make sure it's bolts are tight. If it's loose it will suck air and not work. If tightening it...

There is a mercury tilt switch connected to the kill wire. Make sure the kill wire is not grounded.

1963 Johnson 3 hp sediment issue

I'm refurbishing an old Johnson 3 hp. It's a 1963 model number JW18R but it's basically the same as all 3 hp Johnsons and Evinrudes made from 1951 to 1967. I pulled the head off, removed the old head gasket and found the water jacket full of sediment. I'm thinking the previous owner hit...

    Over charging

OP. Others have correctly answered your question. Just wanted to say I have the same motor and probably boat as you. I see your '88 100 hp Merc has a white cowl. That probably means you have a Searay Seville? Edit to add. The best battery I have found for this motor is a Walmart EverStart...

1985 Mercury 85hp (4 cyl) runs great for 20 minutes then boggs down

Could it be the fuel tank vent is plugged? When it bogs down try squeezing the primer bulb. Is the primer bulb collapsing?

08' Merc 90hp --Ditching The Oil pump/going mixed fuel..

To remove the auto-blend oil system you would remove the oil tank and the mechanical oil pump and associated oil lines. Should install a plate to cap off the hole where the oil pump was. Also plug of the oil port going to the fuel pump.

    91 Mercury 100 won't run past about 1800 rpm

I'm a little confused. You stated earlier you don't have spark on the bottom two cylinders. That would definitely cause your motor not to rev past 1800 in the water. But why are your bottom two spark plugs so black if they have no spark? They would be wet but clean if that was the case. I'm...

Maybe a bad coil? Try swapping them

    91 Mercury 100 won't run past about 1800 rpm

If you had to keep pumping the primer bulb to keep it going that probably means the fuel pump is not working. It's an easy fix and as old as the motor is, if the fuel pump has never been rebuilt it's due any way. It's just new gaskets and new small diaphragms.

35 hp johnson one cylinder no compression

Yep. Sounds like the head gasket is blown between the two cylinders basically linking them together.

    temp beeper mercury 115 1991

It maybe be possible to bypass the module and run the tan wire directly to the buzzer. So you'd have 12v on the hot lead of the buzzer/beeper (maybe through a resistor?) and the tan wire from the temp sender going to the ground lead of the buzzer. You could even rig a test button to apply a...

    temp beeper mercury 115 1991

I have an '88 100 hp Merc which is about the same. I went though similar issues with my beeper. For me it came down to a bad warning module which I replaced. Worked fine for a while but it went bad too. After that I disconnected it and just monitor my oil level and temp gauge closely. :(

Does my engine have a problem? Or is this normal behavior?

Plus the oil auto-blend is supposed to reduce the oil at idle to 100 to 1.

Different way to set max timing?

I have always wondered about the max timing setting on my '88 100 hp Merc. There is an adjustable pointer on the flywheel cover that I could never confirm was set correct. You need a special tool to set it. I had set my max timing by that pointer according what the manual stated it should be...
