Adding a hydrofoil to the outdrive may help.

    Hydraulic steering hose leak

Following up on this issue. I ended up working the grommet partially out of the hole and then was able to remove the old hose. Locating the correct replacement hose was the next obstacle. Finally stumbled onto the website of Boatsteer.com. Called them and they assured me they had what I...

    Hydraulic steering hose leak

Thanks for everyone's input. I can source a new hydraulic hose. The issue I'm having now is removing the bad hose. There is a large gasket near the engine where all the hoses and cables pass through the hull. It's about 5-6 inches diameter. Everything is very tight there and I don't think...

    Hydraulic steering hose leak

I have an old SeaRay outboard runabout with Hydraulic steering. One of the Hydraulic hoses that connects to the Hydraulic cylinder at the engine has sprung a leak. I'm very competent at repairing many boat related items but have never worked on Hydraulic hoses. Is this something I can do as...

Wondering about the need for "variable" oil mix.

Thanks for all the replies. Gives me a lot to go on. The main reason I brought it up is because the linkage between the oil pump and throttle on my engine is breaking and I was thinking I'd eliminate that part.

Wondering about the need for "variable" oil mix.

I have an old 2 stroke 1988 Mercury 100 hp outboard. It has the auto-blend oil feature with an oil tank under the cowl and a small driveshaft driven oil pump that mixes oil with the gas before it's delivered to the carburetors. The oil pump varies the oil ratio with a linkage connected to the...

How do I drain the fluid from power trim?

Motor is a 1988 Mercury 100 hp 4 cyl. There is a small allen screw in the bottom of the trim unit. Will taking that out drain it?

Considering adding stop leak to power-trim for fading issue

1988 Mercury 100HP. Trim works fine except it will slowly lower by itself. This means that while cruising I have to hit the trim up every 5 minutes or so because it trims in slowly by itself. I was thinking it's not worth it to me to spend a lot on this for a rebuild. I'd rather keep...

    Carb kit gaskets

I'm looking to get some carb kits for a set of '90 115 hp carbs. My question is about the contents of these kits. They don't seem to have the correct amount of gaskets. They should have two of the carb mounting gaskets (item 14), one for the intake side and one for the inlet/cover side but...

    Tachometer differences?

Can somebody tell what the actual difference is between a tach that is intended for an outboard motor and one that is intended for an I/O? Don't both types have a selector switch on the back for differing amount of pulses?

What's the correct timing spec for my motor?

I have a '88 100hp Merc 4 cylinder 2+2. I also have the factory service manual for it but get this, it has two different specs for max timing. On one page it says 27 degress BTDC @ cranking (retards to 23 @5000 rpm). On another page it says 25 degress BTDC @ cranking (retards to 23 @5000...

    Read my plugs

This is from my '88 Merc 100hp 4 cyl 2+2. These are laid left to right in sequence cyl 1 thru 4. What's wrong with number 2? I'm guessing the number two carb is running too rich?

    Re-circulation bleed system question

My '88 Merc 100 hp 4 cyl has a fuel hose that runs from the bottom cyl back up to the top cyl. I used a mityvac to test the orifices the hose is connected to. The bottom orifice/valve seems to function so that it lets the excess fuel out but closes the other direction. Sounds good I'm...

    Fuel pump kit best practices

I put a fuel pump kit in my '88 100 hp 4 cyl Merc about a month ago but I am having what seems to be a leak into the pulse port. This was my first fuel pump rebuild I'm ashamed to say. I bought a Sierra kit which turned out not to be the correct one but I modded it to work. The problem with...

    Why the center justification?

This forum is odd the way it has the text center justified. Just makes it weird to read. I'll type this to show what I mean. Edit to add, it looks like maybe only the Merc section is that way.

    Oil injection pump leaking oil

Engine is a '88 Merc 100hp 4 cylinder 2+2 but I think this oil pump is common to any that has oil injection. Seems a seal may have went bad in the pump and oil was leaking into the motor and draining through the lower unit.. Is the oil pump servicable? My Merc manual does not cover rebuilding...

1988 Merc 100hp 4 cyl leaking oil through motor

I have eliminated the oil tank and oil lines. It's not that stuff that is leaking. It must be either the oil pump or the fuel pump that is leaking right into the power head. Which is one most likely the culprit? I'm thinking fuel pump.

What are the rules of engagement?

I saw some guy trailering down the highway with the exact same boat as mine (1988 16 ft SeaRay Seville O/B) but instead of the 100 HP 4 cyl on the back he had a V6 Black Max. I think it was a 175 HP. My capacity plate says 125 HP max. What are the government regulations on this? Maybe it's...

    1988 16 ft SeaRay Seville 100HP O/B seats

My back seat middle cushion is shot. Anybody know a source for these? I'm thing about taking the old seat to an upholstering guy to have him make me a new one. Do I have any options?

    Conflicting timing specs

I have a '88 100 hp 4 cylinder 2+2 Merc that has two different max timing specs listed. My Merc manual has it as 27 degrees BTDC @cranking speed on one page and then 25 degrees on another. Both pages say the timing is retarded to 23 degrees BTDC @ 5000 rpm. I would think that the 27 degrees...
