So I have a 75 hp mercury..I believe it to be 1992...the motor runs but just won't start by choking it...have to spray with starter fluid..through air intake..then it will fire up...obviously I don't want to do this everytime I take my boat out..I just bought the boat ..should just drain all the gas out of the tank..yes it is a full tank. I did put new spark plugs in it..n it still won't start by the choke..still have to spray air intake.. any info would be great. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Are you pushing key in and holding it in WHILE cranking it over with starter motor ?----Are you advancing throttle ?

Are you squeezing the primer bulb till it gets hard before attempting to choke/start?

Clean your battery connections, and starter solenoid and starter positive and ground cables. The motor must crank pretty fast to make a strong spark.

The motor will fire much more easily when using starting fluid.

When using starting fluid, always have a fire extinguisher at hand ready to go. Any kind of small spark will catch the engine on fire.
