    1987 Evinrude 110 success

I enjoyed ready your story. I also respect your courage to think outside the box and try a non-standard carb link timing change. Many forum readers might flame you for that. I cannot count how many times I have done that sort of thing myself and most of the time kept quiet about it. My...

    Thermostat Location on 1993 Mercury 2 stroke/ 4 cyl (115Hp)

To check/replace the impellor you need to unbolt and remove the lower unit. The process should be in the manual. It is in the Mercury shop manual. There are probably you-tubes that show you how.

    Thermostat Location on 1993 Mercury 2 stroke/ 4 cyl (115Hp)

Just keep in mind, these motors are more likely to have the warning module go bad than the thermostat. Have you checked the water impeller? That is also more likely. I see you corrected your initial post. A 3 -275 HP manual is way too generic. If you are planning on keeping that motor, you...

    Quit on the Water!

0.9 ohms on the primary sounds about right. Are you showing 3.25 K ohms on the secondary? Not 3.25 ohms? On the secondary, I'm thinking anything between 3K and 8K is what you are looking for.

    Thermostat Location on 1993 Mercury 2 stroke/ 4 cyl (115Hp)

Does your boat have a working temperature gauge?

    Thermostat Location on 1993 Mercury 2 stroke/ 4 cyl (115Hp)

Which motor are you asking about? 115 hp or a 3 - 27 hp? The 115 hp has a thermostat. It's on cylinder head/cover top left.

    1988 2-Stroke Mariner 50hp Not Starting

Try putting some new fuel (with 2 stroke oil mixed at 50/1) into a spray bottle and spray a little into the carb throat. That should point you in a direction.

    '89 100hp Merc quits

Top two. Look at the carbs. You'll see only the top two have idle (low speed) mixture screws. That's how the whole 2+2 system works.

    '89 100hp Merc quits

Could be the top two carbs need to be cleaned out paying careful attention to the low-speed circuit. You could try re-adjusting the low-speed mixture screws first. What is the idle RPM in gear? Maybe that is set too low? Should be 650-700 rpm.

MERCURY 40 ELPTO - Long Beep

That motor may not have a thermostat.

90 hp 2 stroke 1998 Merc Poor Performance

Take a center punch and a hammer and put a punch mark on the hub and on the prop so they line up. Then you can take the boat out and run it as you usually would. If afterward the punch marks no longer line up that confirms slippage. The other possibility is the prop is flattening out. Aluminum...

90 hp 2 stroke 1998 Merc Poor Performance

With a 15 pitch prop and 4800 rpm I would expect at least 30 mph. Could the prop hub be slipping?

90 hp 2 stroke 1998 Merc Poor Performance

Have you done a sync and link? What max timing spec is set? 4800 RPM and barely on plane? I would definitely try another prop. I don't trust "rebuilt" props. I always had prop problems till I went SS.

MERCURY 40 ELPTO - Long Beep

My Merc does run hotter while running slow. I think that is due to the impeller not spinning as fast and moving less water through the block. The manual should help you replace the water impeller.

    84 75hp disintegrating wire

That's the wires from the trigger. Looks like it's the WHT/BLK wires that is gone. I guess you might be able to strip the covering back far enough to expose a good part of that wire you could splice in a new piece of wire. Probably the best thing to do is to replace the trigger because if...

    Mercury 2 stroke 60 hp 1994..timing

You need to get a service manual to properly sync and time the motor. That said, the flywheel key may be bad. You may need to pull the flywheel and inspect for damage.

    2001 90HP ELPT carbs leaking

Was the floats and needle valves replaced with brand new ones? It's a simple matter of getting the needle valves (and seats) to close off the fuel once the bowl reaches a certain percentage full. Maybe the carbs are a bad design but one would think an adjustment of the floats should solve this...

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

After I finished the refurb of my '63, when blasting across the lake WOT I noticed a ratting noise. Never figured what that was. Maybe it's loose rod caps? Damn. I don't really want to have to tear it all apart again.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

I just finished refurbing my 1963 Johnson JW-18 last June. Basically the same as your motor. I did not have this issue when replacing the points. I used Sierra Part Number 18-5006. I'm thinking you bought the wrong points for that motor.

    Quit on the Water!

Do a resistance test on the coils. Replace the points and condensers while you have the flywheel off.
