    1993 Mercury 60 hp 2 stroke has cough/misfire/sputter!

Could be "Lean pop". A lean mixture can cause a 2 stroke to "pop" or cough. Did you check the fuel pump?

Evinrude Fastwin 18 No Full Tilt Lock

My old 3hp Johnson has a tilt friction adjustment bolt. You have to tighten it enough that it will stay in the tilted up position but not so tight that it's hard to tilt. Maybe yours has that too? For trailering I'd have to tight it up with a rope.

    Quit on the Water!

Did you check the fuel supply? Was the vent open on the fuel tank? Did you check the primer bulb?

90elpto was perfect now cranks but no exhaust

Unless I'm way off base, the rectifier does not have anything to do with the trigger. The rectifier is for the charging system not the ignition.

    Higher elevation issues.

Yeah, definitely have the motor scanned. Too bad it's not like a car that has basic OBD type port. I have a cheap little adaptor and an iphone app that I can do just about anything with.

    Higher elevation issues.

He means the hub of the prop might be slipping. But I thought you tried two different props? If I'm reading your numbers correctly, it seems your boat is struggling to get on plane. Hence the 10 MPH top speed? My opinion is that EFI engines should be able to handle altitude better than...

90elpto was perfect now cranks but no exhaust

If it's still burning the wiring, that would indicate too much current is going through. Does the motor have a voltage regulator? Does your boat have a volt meter and if so have you noticed anything unusual? How is the condition of the battery and what is your battery setup?

Johnson 55hp 1979 snapped bolt after following manual. Why?

To check inch/pound torques, you want to use a 1/4 inch torque wrench.

60HP 1989 Johnson outboard low compression

Any grease used inside the powerhead must be gasoline soluble. I don't know about Johnson but Mercury makes "needle bearing assembly lube" specifically for this kind of application.

Johnson 55hp 1979 snapped bolt after following manual. Why?

Agreed on the inch/pounds. I don't have the Johnson specs in front of me but I know the Mercury impeller cover bolts are torqued to 60 in/lbs which is only 5 ft/lbs.. That's barely more than finger tight.

    Mercury kill switch wires

Like Chris said, you need to disconnect the BLK/YEL wires from the switchboxes. This way you are testing only the ignition switch and the wiring. Connect the black lead of the ohm meter to engine ground. Connect the red lead of the ohm meter to one of the disconnected BLK/YEL wires. With...

    Mercury kill switch wires

There is also the mercury tilt switch that may also be at play. You may also have bad wiring. I think it best to use an ohm meter and check the BLK/YEL wires for grounds. Disconnect the battery and turn the ignition switch on, then check the wires. It should be an open circuit to ground...

Those yellow wires come from the stator. Wondering if the stator burned up? Do you have spark?

    1988 30HP Timing

Isn't it odd the motor has an electric starter and a pull starter? Maybe electric start was an option? So in that case they don't bother removing the pull start hardware?

The serial number can be looked up to verify what you have.

Which spark plug? (confused by EzPartsWeb)

I think it depends on what you use your motor for. The QL76V plugs are resistor type. They will be good for boats that have a lot of electronics such as depth finders. The NGK BUHW is the standard plug for your engine. I believe L76V is the Champion equivalent of the BUHW.

I wouldn't take a chance after doing all that work. Buy new needles for sure. They look like junk.

2004 Merc 135hp blown power head after servicd

"Blown powerhead" is such a vague term. It sounds like this so-called mechanic is a knucklehead but did he give any more detail as to what broke? Was the motor peeing? Did you happen to check motor temperature when running?
