    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

I believe it was an ACE hardware that carried the Nyalox. the main reason for the glass cloth is to prevent plywood grain checking. It also adds strength to the board. I probably wouldn't epoxy over varnish; i'd worry about the epoxy adhering especially as you build up layers.

    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

@SHSU covered your question thoroughly. I really like the Nyalox (nylon) cup brushes. Grey (coarse), Orange (Medium), Blue (Light)...the orange one did most of the heavy lifting on my project. One nice thing about orange is that it's relatively selective to aluminum...big advantage around...

In some cases (like my most recent rebuild), tearing down was 5% of the battle 🤣 😭! Classic paint scheme right there. (y) Aluminum prep is key. I went with interlux 2-part tip-n-roll...very pricey but it's bombproof. If your FIL has access to a proper paint booth / PPE (fresh-air supplied)...

    1983 starcraft ss180 restore

Welcome! It looks like you're well on your way there! if it's still hanging upside down, that's a good time to seal the bottom double seam from the outside...then get the inside when it's right-side-up. If you paint inside, just be sure you have excellent adhesion. Otherwise its just 1 more...

    1974 starcraft islander overhaul

Welcome and Congrats!! Nice big-water rig you towed home! Lookin' forward of the destruction...err I mean deconstruction...and the rebuild. I've seen alot of those O/B conversions started but not many completed. Is this dock rash ...or a bullet hole 😬 🤣

Congrats on the Terrova! the walleye won't stand a chance. Most of us tinheads lean towards vinyl flooring over carpet.

Nice work on a careful deconstruction! You're likely going to need a puller of some sort to remove that wheel. 3 jaw puller, harmonic balancer puller (with a chain around the backside), etc. I've also used an air hammer on that shaft while putting pressure on the backside with a board.

Trying to determine the age of this 14" Seafarer before I start restoration.

Nice project! Is there a hull ID plate on the starboard side of the transom...just below the corner bracket?

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

Nah I left it there...consider it a case study. I've spilled enough where it should be pretty easy to remove next season when I do seal it back up 🤣. Where I also screwed up was wiping up access 5200 off of my motor mounts with denatured alcohol (camp stove gas). I had to redo those anyway...

@Moserkr aren't HOA's wonderful? 🤣 I have a quazi-HOA where we pool together our $$ to insure the forever-green areas of our plan...but there are still restrictions. If it weren't for an HOA, I'd have a pole-barn with a lift & room for 3+ boats! Polishing a hull is miserable, dirty work...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

Not too long ago, I thought the same thing about 5200 (what do you think I sealed my fuel fill with 🤣 ) @g0nef1sshn 's recent come-back posts (starting page) with his rotten transom where he used 5200 to seal the splashwell and screws. It prompted me to read the 5200 technical data sheet and...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

I used nbutyl tape and really like it. 5200 is not the best choice for the primary splashwell seal. It's not fuel resistant...and with an old 2 stroke, that could be a problem.

@Moserkr I've had good luck with the save-a-thread inserts for spark plug threads. My method with pics is here: Link. Remove head. retap hole with save-a-thread tap tool (uses existing threads to simultaneously upsize the hole and retap...pretty slick) clean threads of insert & newly tapped...
