    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Thank you for the photo dump @Moserkr ! I have to admit, the green made me a little nauseated at 1st but it's starting to grow on me. 😁 Good call on getting that trailer made right! (y)

    1983 starcraft rebuild

No problem @caprphilly1950 ! Sorry man... I can't offer up much advice with removing pour-in foam other than roll-up your sleeves and start digging. Both of the boats that I've restored had sheet foam. Is that 3400# with the trailer weight subtracted?

    1983 starcraft rebuild

I got these on amazon but you can probably find them anywhere. (T-H Marine DPS-6-2-DP Sure-Seal Screw Out Deck Plate - Polar White, 6"). I wish they were grey but I couldn't beat the price ...so I just spray painted them.

Denatured alcohol makes short work of 5200... just don't use it near the areas you want to seal. Acetone is more suitable for cleaning-up the patches. Clecos are worth their weight in gold if you have alot of patching to do. They're very handy even for reassembly. I did used screws until...

Ah! Starmada Alumni! I have the original '75 70HP on my 18' SuperSport...most would say that its underpowered but i've been very happy with it. Only~ 220#, simple/reliable operation, easy to wrench on and decent fuel economy. Regarding that leaky bow keel, they didn't put enough...

You can try welding but some things for your welder to consider: the aluminum is fatigued the aluminum contaminated/oxidized inside of the cracks. verify the grade of aluminum is weld-friendly (Starcraft uses 5052) you have access to only 1 side of the crack unless you remove the keel Is there...

this is an indication how much that hull is flexing.

    What am I looking at?

I'm a big fan of solid rivets securing external patches of ~ 0.090" aluminum sheet buttered with 3M 5200...after of course the cause of the cracking is determined/resolved. However, this one would be tricky given that you'd have to remove the keel to patch externally...then reinstall the keel...

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

Agree, @jbcurt00 ; These things usually rot from the inside-out; the transom should really come out to assess how to address. I don't see a line of rivets for a z-flange.

    1988 Starcraft Mariner MR 220 V rebuild

Welcome to the Starmada after your 1k mile journey! Can't wait to see some pics! (I mean...literally...we can't wait...tick tock! 😈) The true test for that transom is to see if it flexes when you grab the outboard leg like you're trying to lift it. If it moves even the tiniest amount, time...

    Center console project

That SubStructure is Lookin' good! One thing that I see missing is a sub-deck track for running control cables, wiring and fuel lines. I did a CC conversion on my last boat and used several PVC runs; it was crucial. In your case since the lateral supports are already fastened, you can still...

What did I do wrong with Transom?

i think you'll be fine @SHSU . Your current boat is a garage/trailer queen so little exposure even if you had some checking. For someone planning to store outside or slipped, I'd reconsider. Plywood sheathed in glass will make it considerably more rigid. I don't notice any flex in my 1/2"...

    22' Islander rebuild

Welcome! That's an aggressive plan on getting this water-ready by spring! I assume you have a garage...preferably heated? You might be the 1st to come on here saying they have a Starcraft with a working OMC (most critical wear parts are NLA). It would be cool if you can squeeze a few more...

What did I do wrong with Transom?

I feel for ya man. Despite what many say on the old interweb, epoxy requires a bit more than mixing / spreading...along with the additional expense. If folks aren't going to go through all of the extra expense/prep/processing required with epoxy, I've been intrigued by the "Old Timer...

What did I do wrong with Transom?

Sorry to hear that jdupree :(. Any other clues as to where the rot started? (top-to-bottom? around fasteners? z-bracket?, outer-PLY layers or completely through?) I assume that you didn't use fiberglass with the epoxy. If that's the case, that could be your 1st issue; plywood grains have the...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I used a dremel 9910 tungsten carbide bit...great for moving corrosion laterally but doesn't dig deeper into the aluminum. (thread link). As far as removing the ribs, I think it depends on whether you have leaks under them & what caused the corrosion you're dealing with. My SS was badly...
