    1979 Starcraft 16’ SS Refresh

Wow! 94 and still knockin' them down! The seller might regret giving away Dad's boat someday. It's all there & it appears to even has the right hole for the outdrive (non-WLOD!) I'm in a similar boat (literally) where I've been contemplating dragging home my grandfather's 1973 Chrysler New...

    New Journey

apologies for the belated congrats @MNhunter1 !! I too thought that it was just someone bumping your old thread & rubbing salt in the wound! 😁 If a feller doesn't have a compressor, that milwalkee riveter would be cost & space effective! Imagine if they can package it with a riveting...

I'm no expert either but I've heard it identified as mahogany. Looks good!

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

That front light is definitely reusable; maybe you want to sand down the pitting and spraybomb it. A simple upgrade would be replacing the incandescent bulbs with LED if they haven't been swapped already. Regarding the bow railing, I assume that there are nuts on the underside of the gunnels...

    1955

Welcome @ChiefMKC ! I don't know if we've had a '55 come across the site. The closest well-documented build that I can find is @ssdale 's '59 Constellation (Link). His is a runabout however his restoration includes alot of woodwork that probably applies to your construction.

the HF brake should be able to handle that thickness (0.125") of 5052; I did alot of 0.090" without trouble. If you have to do really wide pieces, you may need heat it to make it more malleable but I doubt that would be necessary.

    1966 Starcraft Holiday Interior Work

Apologies for my project scaring you away from the virtues of gluv-it! 😭 The corrosion was severe on my build for a few reasons: they painted the stuff on and it flaked off in sheets (while other areas needed to be chiseled off) the stuff may have contained corrosive ingredients (possibly...

those braces look super stout! Great job! Denatured alcohol will zap 5200 ...just keep it away from areas you're trying to seal. Acetone is better for cleaning up near sealing points.

@benfish909 didn't waste any time going where very few have gone! 🤪 It sounds like you have a solid plan...and you've recruited a rivet partner (i.e. the Admiral) that you don't have to apologize to for weeks/months afterwards! 🤣

That corrugated plastic should do a great job keeping a nice cavity for drainage / airflow esp as it won’t compress downward! Bummer on them screwing up your deck frame; it sounds like they’re making it right for ya. (y) Since you’ll be cutting the 2-part, look into ways to seal the cuts...

1978 18ft Mariner: I won this "Pig in a Poke" on Ebay..!

Welcome! That's a sweet Rig! Those 3cyl OMCs are bombproof and easy to work on...should push that light mariner really well. Must of us build mobile cradles using lumber & caster wheels (or furniture dollies from HF) esp if you need to move it around/in/out of a shop. I find that it...

1975 StarCraft Mariner build "The Unicorn"

Welcome to the Starmada! Not much to ripping one of these old tubs down. Be gentle on the trim though since replacing is often difficult. Usually deconstruction takes 1-2 days...and in the case of my latest project, reconstruction took 7 years 😬! What do you have powering it?

You're thinking outside of the box; rather than paint-by-numbers you're contemplating the build soup-to-nuts and researching each build module. I'm particularly excited to see this deck framing idea so please get plenty of pictures of construction and application!

I'm not surprised you have the cracking. Now that's a riveting hammer! make sure she's oiled. You should also treat yourself to need a set of clecos since you'll be doing alot of patches. Here's how @Watermann and I implemented external patches. You should also drill a small crackstop at...

That’s quite a beer tab 😝 they are all aluminum rivets picture and highly unlikely there are steel solids in your boat. the rub rails are fastened with size 10 machine screws & locknuts at the factory. Do you plan to remove your rubrail channel?

Thanks! I was new to aluminum as well but didn't have much of a choice since my hull was already swiss cheese 😬 . that top image is the original setup...i'm just illustrating the weak points of their engineered design. I absolutely recommend adding those vertical risers (1) riveted to the...

1975 Starcraft SS 16' Freshen Up

@Michigan Lakes good progress & strategy with holes/OTF! I'd get the transom & OTF to room temp in the house, maybe preheat the garage the best you can while you're setting up. Then drag everything out to the garage for application/cure/outgassing out in the garage with the door open...and...

    21' Holiday Rebuild

i had that same kind of bending and a bunch of my rib ends were cracked. yeah a floppy transom is the cause of the busted kneebrace and cracked SW. basically the SW becomes the kneebrace. Once you replace your transom, and they already addressed the cracked kneebrace, the SW repair is...
