    Question On Changing Stringer Location

20" will be a hellava stringer and take a Lot of glass to cover. Of coarse you can custom build 20". They will already be strong when you epoxy or resin them together before you ever add ANY glass. This stuff is way stronger than we give credit. I find that over and over again,. But I still...

I can answer some of this. The uni-strut is steel. And being very familiar with it,. He has 2 types installed.... I can see some is true gray Galvanized,. usually for exterior/outside... Wonder if the cut ends were re-coated with anything,. or the rust will start in days. Next I can see the...

    1967 Pere Marquette Cyclone

Kudo's on what looks like a quality and speedy repair. I'm not so lucky. Amazing how a rotted transom just holds on. I too don't understand how my engine didn't fall off on the 900 mile trip home when I purchased it.

Replace chain on floating dock - recommendations?

Something I left out,. just in case. If you decide you need to cut Grade 70 chain, you need a grinder with cut-off wheel or a torch. It laughs at a hack saw. it just slides across it.

Replace chain on floating dock - recommendations?

Well you have several options when it comes to chain. Not sure what I provide is what your looking for but its another option. I use 5/16, 3/8 & 1/2 Grade 70. (way heavier than you need) you can probably get by with 1/4" chain. My chain is not the gray galvanized, its kinda gold colored. here's...

I looked at your pic and chuckled under my breath.. About all the several 100's of projects that I have seen, seem to almost have the same look.. including both of mine.

    siphoning fuel from gas tank

This is outside of the box. and some trouble. You could disconnect fuel line at motor and fire up and run a minute on TruFuel. That should for sure save your carbs. I am not a fan of Eth. sitting. However you may be Ok with a strong dose as you described.

Carburetorated engine running rough after day on lake

If its set a long time, Ethanol could have struck again. You could have a little ignition problem, or some of both and several other little gremlins. Sounds like you ran it just enough to break a little goop loose in carbs. More below. I myself try to only run Eth. in daily drivers, Never in...

    PVC board as stringers??

There are a 100 different ways you could approach this. Just know anything you do will most likely be better than factory. Polyester will do, lots of folks use it with no problems. However it is not as strong of a bond or as water turning as epoxy. Obviously a little more money but epoxy also...

    PVC board as stringers??

I myself have kicked around other unproved materials and methods. Considering I have hoarded almost enough cull 1x's & 2x's from box stores at .10 - .30 cents on the dollar to build a small viking ship. And it only requires some cuts or rips and scarf/lap jointing. (that I enjoy doing...

    Holes and the unknowns

You have been given the best advise thus far from some the Top Shelf members on this forum. The only thing I would add. Don't loose hope after you start.. this is ALOT of long, nasty/itchy, hard, work ahead, and it will not be cheap, but its cheaper than a new boat. If you take time and do...

Changing engine oil filter same time as oil?

I don't change any oil until I have the filter in hand. $8.00 is fractional compared to a failure in that engine. Good to hear you decided to do complete change rather than partial shortcut. It's really the best cheapest insurance. Oil is the blood of the engine. If one has a dirty liver its...

Hole repair in a boat deck

You can attach with screws as stated above. even put a screw in the piece as a handle. to hold onto. You can do all the above without screws just epoxy. Wrap a string or wire around the patching material. and have a topside attachment point, wood, plastic, metal plate, rod. etc. If your fear...

    Small cheap roof for storage?

I do kinda the same now but not as heavy as described above. I use 2x's whatever length works best. also I use some thinner 1x2 or 1/2x1-1/2 thin rips to lay over where ever tarp tries to pond or sag in, then use an assortment of bungee, wrachet straps. or quick pull tie down cargo straps to...

    Has anyone used this stuff

I will attest to my use. (Not used the Rot version you listed) But.. The regular Epo Steel Lvx 103 product works very well for me. So far as flexible. Not sure flexible is the best description. Many epoxies shatter or break with high impact or by bending. This Product is Very Tough with my...
