    198x SS-150 rebuild

I would leave or keep the motor. You load the boat down with people or "cargo" It will still have plenty of go.. But Beefing up is in order and you need to get those cracks fixed and again some reinforcement. Thats the downside to being overpowered. Now you need to Overbuild.. Rather than...

Seeking Opinions/Advice on the Boat I Just Bought.

I Really like the Fasco products if we're talking about the same people in Florida. I have 6 gallons of Epo-Steel 103 LVX=means, low viscosity.(thin) Was so impressed I bought another 3 gallon kit "Summer"/Slow set. and it is SLOW.... Gives you plenty of time to work, I mean hours, You think at...

Voids found after new transom install

Just out of curiosity. How are you planning "opening up"? Are you considering cutting through the outside skin or Hull to gain access to these voids. If that is the case, or cutting a hole in your new plywood? if so.. You are creating a bigger problem than you have. Unless I'm missing...

Voids found after new transom install

I must admire you desire for almost perfection. I'm guilty of the same thing a lot. Other than self gratitude or your own peace of mind. I think your efforts will waay outweigh the benefits. As I and others have said, its already protected or sealed off. its going to be difficult for water to...

Voids found after new transom install

Edit; I'm not opposed to trying to improve it or fix it. (injection)thats prob most I would do. but you're now drilling holes to definitely let water in if you don't get it sealed. Its the fact or chance of getting it 100% Injection.. whether or not if it will crack, well milled fibers should...

Voids found after new transom install

I understand your concern about voids, nobody likes or wants that. You had epoxy between layers, right? its coated or protected, even if water gets in, It has to get in first, and if it does its in a pocket of epoxy void, you obviously painted or smeared it and it developed pockets. So if water...

What are your opinions on this boat?

I always seem to find my gut feeling is right Way more often than its wrong. If its smells like fish run. that smell was your warning. My project is several Years. it's keeping my mind occupied. But 1, 1.... DAY,. maybe. I will have a completed project and I will know literally every inch of it...

Found a snake skin in the boat. Now what?

Hot water is a sure fire way to get a snake moving. Most snakes are at home in water., But you heat it up things change quickly. I only kill poisonous snakes. Now my Ex would not ever get on that boat again.

    Tippy aluminum houseboat

Not to beat a dead horse. But the fuel tank up top, is like.., Trying to relocate an extension ladder in the upright position with a 100 pounds up top, or a man standing on the top rung hanging on. And I don't mean to sound ugly.

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

Thanks alldodge. There was no box. I (have) kicked around the idea very mildly, and really still undecided, more towards not.. but still open to it. kinda. What I was thinking was several +100 qt. coolers, that way they are removable just pick it all up and go with it rater than transferring...

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

Ok. A pic from yesteryear. You all know my boat is way past this point now. I posted the bare clean hull 6 or more months ago. Reason I’m showing this. Is.. You see how little foam it would take to finish filling this part of the hull. ? Why not just fill it Solid. Is it figured that close...

    Gelcoat cracking

You should recognize fiberglass pretty easily. If you are sanding or grinding, and you go from gel right to wood, It should take a little bit to get through glass and expose rotten wood. Also wood doesn't just "pop up" like in that last pic... if fiberglas is used.(most times anyway)

    Repair or dump?? Cheap stratos

all the other might-as-wells while you're in there. That's a great way to put it. I always referred to it as the never ending story. (you remember that 6hr. movie)or it seemed like.

    Electric Boats

No, my solar is not from 30 yrs. ago. That's how long I've been in the trade. I too am a contractor and prequalified level III for high rise inspections. through D.O.I. But my solar never did go, I guess I never got the right avenues, My customers were in the big city and more likely to install...

    Electric Boats

Sounds like you have a handle on things. The up size on wire, lowering the resistance and that will never allow the wire to heat up. And in addition to that,. if you are oversizing motors or strong sizing. You have at Least 3 things going on in your favor there. And I will list them, not for...

    Electric Boats

I'm not taking about meeting code. And this may be where I'm going wrong. I'm transposing what I know about solar and power to the boat industry. or pretty much automotive/DC 12/24/36/48 volt and I know that too, but not like I know line voltage. I'm talking about dependability, and the...

Let me add what I didn't really convey. You have a great plan As I Already Stated. It's the solar network itself that I have little faith in. And that I question Cheers.

    Electric Boats

Long Response. I'm not going to chew up your plan, Just convey my encounters with solar. Your 3 motor plan is the best idea of all for all the reasons you listed. In addition to having spare 2 spares should 1 fail or,. 1 spare should 2 fail(thats unlikely) Now the bad, And solar may have...

Good Idea or Bad Idea. Stringer Prep.

Well, I sought out this specific boat. It's same age or year as me, I bought it as a full resto project to help me deal with the loss of a wife I loved very much,. She found a better deal to her. I drove to ny and drug this thing back to nc. 2-1/2 day round trip and 1800 miles. With 300 lbs...
