    Force 85 1987 bayliner capri

Unfortunately, this motor is done and time to move on to get another power head or even a whole entire unit. If you can find the same type and year model much better that gives you a lot of spare parts from this old one.

Force 50 turns over but wont run

Nice find. As already mentioned you have a lot to go to start with. Since it has been sitting idle for awhile, you might want to spray fogging oil into each cylinder before compression testing. Check the lanyard key make sure it is set properly or it will never run.

    Tilt/Trim Issue 1989(?) Force 85 Model 853K9C

First of all, congrats on a very nice find on this well maintained and well kept motor. As for the Tilt & Trim (T&T) troubleshooting, first things first, DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE PUMP OR DISMOUNT THE MOTOR. Most likely the leak is from the check valves in the valve body (VB) or O rings in the tilt...

    1996 Force 40 outboard

There is already a small stainless screen filter just before the fuel pump. No need for another fuel filter, instead of replacing the white one, replace with clear one and move it after the pump just before the carbs. This will be a good troubleshooting tool for fuel related problems. As for the...

    1996 Force 40 outboard

Great. Now you have to isolate if the miss is fuel related or spark (electrical related). The best and easiest way is to do a cylinder drop test. This involves pulling the spark plug cable off while the engine is idling. You will have to do it quick to make sure you do not destroy the cd mods...

    1996 Force 40 outboard

You might want to check for compression first to make sure you are firing on all cylinders. Post the results in here.

87 Force 85 Cylinder Scoreing from Overheating

Looks like the scoring is not that bad. You don't have to disassemble the block, instead remove the bottom carb and intake adapter and then access the rod and cap bolts with a 1/4" 12 point socket. Be very careful with the roller bearings. It will fall apart and make sure you have everything...

    repair mishap

If the ckt breaker is working, then you can try disconnectng the black/yellow or white wire from the module on the terminal board. Make sure you have a way to ground this lead if necessary. This is the stop wire and if the motor starts, the only way to stop the motor is to ground this wire. It...

    repair mishap

Did you check the ckt breaker for continuity to make sure it is still working and not melted inside. Check for continuity if not then jumper it temporarily just to see if you will have sparks back. Note there are other ckt breakers so make sure you are focused on the correct one by following the...

    repair mishap

There is a ckt breaker between the battery and the positive (+) terminal of the rectifier. The same ckt breaker provides the initial ignition power (connects to ignition switch) through the red or purple wire that is also connected to the + terminal of the rectifier. Here's what a ckt breaker on...

Erratic Timing Light Reading on '96 Force 120

Oh common! Before you go to the water you need to make sure the motor is running by doing it on the driveway with muffs. Did you try putting the throttle in fast idle? That is pulling the throttle control handle towards you or pushing a center button and pushing it forward. This will give the...

Erratic Timing Light Reading on '96 Force 120

No need to disconnect throttle linkage when adjusting the idle screw located at the bottom of the timing tower. All that is required is that you have a 7/16" open wrench to loosen the nut locking the idle screw. And then turn the idle screw in or out depending if you want to increase or decrease...

    Carburetor float question

The usual criteria in adjusting carb floats is by inverting it and the float should level with the body of the carb. In your pics, the carb on the right seems to have the correct setting. The other should be adjusted as the same.

Erratic Timing Light Reading on '96 Force 120

If you did not mess with the original timing, it should stay the same. And that means you did not made any adjustment with the timing tower and its connections to the trigger plate. Just to be sure, idle speed around 1000 RPM on muffs and neutral, the timing should be around 8~10 degrees BTDC...

Erratic Timing Light Reading on '96 Force 120

Could be a bad timing light. Remember, the best timing light for this motor is a simple induction type that connects to battery power and the sensor to the #1 spark plug. Start checking the timing tower and its connection to the trigger plate making sure it's all tight. And then inspect all the...

    RE: 1996 Mecury Force 120HP

Not sure what you meant by intermittent. Normally, if the pee tube is after the t-stat, it will only have flow when the t-stat opens up. And even on the muff it shouldn't take no more than 2-3 minutes of idling and the t-stat should open. Now if that is what you meant by intermittent, then that...

    70 h.p. force

Can you post the actual compression readings on each cylinder? It seems you tried fixing the fuel related issues and also some synching items. Have you checked for broken reeds? Dismount the carb and check the reeds. Even better if you have one of those bore scopes (even cheap ones that...

    Super Ugly Pistons

Disconnected fuel recirc lines will allow more air into that cylinder and less fuel/oil mixture, i.e. lean condition. The fuel recirc lines do not provide lubrication instead collects unburned fuel/oil mixture from the cylinder cavities/plenum. And the same is recirc to the carb intake.
