Boat mooring in rocky areas (aluminum boat)

Scenario I imagined is off a rocky beach, or up near a boulder about the right height. Neither situation may be perfect if there's much wave action, or if you absolutely must stay dry while transferring from boat to shore and back. Can't cover the entire bottom, or side below the water line...

Possibly Purchasing 70s Mercruiser 140... Overheated

Especially 4 strokes. Folks in our area, with a huge percentage of pontoon boats, are wearing out/can't find parts for 40 year old motors. New motors cost more than the boat is worth. Used ones worth talking about are like hen's teeth....

Possibly Purchasing 70s Mercruiser 140... Overheated

Maybe struggle to ski, but tubing shouldn't be an issue. As far as the 140 Mercruiser, they're a great motor and make a great pontoon motor. Unless heated to extreme it's likely just fine. When you go to look at it, make sure you have a look at the motor from an ease of service aspect. Some of...

Boat mooring in rocky areas (aluminum boat)

Securely anchored (one from each end) on the side opposite shore, then tie off to a tree or something on shore.

    Pontoon gas tanks

I had a later model 22' 'toon with 25" tubes for a while. It came with a 18 gal. tank mounted in the engine pod. I didn't use it as there was no gauge, it was difficult to fill unless I was at a gas station (ours was kept in the water), and when full, the back of the boat squatted noticably. I...

    Pontoon gas tanks

This is a point (weight distibution) that can make or break a pontoon project, and doesn't get near the consideration it should - prior to seeing the back of the boat sitting WAY low in the water. Unless this boat has some great big pontoons (25"+) a 20 gallon tank on the back is likely a...

    2 stroke or 4 stroke

On every motor I can think of, if it's a 4 stroke, it'll say 4 stroke on it somewhere. If it's a 2 stroke, generally there's an external oil tank where you would add 2 stoke oil as required - OR - a place where you could add 2 stroke oil right on the motor - without - having to remove the cowl.

I found cracks on the top of my motor under the stator

If the crankcase were actually cracked, there'd be a big mess in that area. As long as it's dry, there's no issue.

    Small used cc

With no intent to be critical, that pic looks like the boat needs to be moved forward quite a bit to get the rear roller under the transom?

    Pontoon Hardtop

That IS a nice top! Just wanted to add that I would be pretty cautious about leaving the upright bolts loose. I've seen way too many with badly wallowed out holes caused by the incessant movement of wind and wave action. Loosen them when you need to. Otherwise, keep 'em pretty snug! -Al

    Small used cc

Like a Mako in good shape, Boston Whalers demand a premium as well. The issue is finding one of them in decent shape. They're both great boats, but finding a nice one is going to take a little determination. They're like hen's teeth - and it's a safe bet they're going to be expensive. Water...

    Jet boat comparison

A jet wouldn't be my first choice either. I'd go outboard, and preferably, a 4 stroke outboard. From a water skiing stand point, jets leave a terrible wake to ski across. For that reason, many use 100' ropes to get in back of it because the standard 75' rope forces them to cross at a distance...

    Ski pole for tube attachment

No truer statement ever spoken!!! If you aren't entertaining enough at our current speed, I'll bet I can find a speed where you will be! Kidding of course. But the tuber behind my boat doesn't need to know that.... -Al

    Tritoon conversion HP help

My thought, based on nothing more than intuition, is the 3rd tube could end up just be additional water drag, with a little extra flotation. My plans for something like that would have included some lifting surfaces to help get this thing up out of the water, and just as likely, a bigger...
