    9.9 Spewing Fuel

Used to be a good shop in W.Seattle.... I would buy a couple of cheap pumps off Amazon. Keep one in your tackle box.

‘84 Evinrude 15 water pump issue

I don't think the grommets are a first priority (and yes, would need to remove the power head). Remove the cylinder head with thermostat cover in place -- leave the lower head bolts backed out of the threads in the p.head, but still in the cylinder head. Lift the head vertically to remove...

replaceing the vro fuel pump with a standard fuel pump

Might be ignition-related. Check spark with an adjustable open air tester (auto parts store). 3/8 inch or more, and sharp.

‘84 Evinrude 15 water pump issue

So I gather the issue is a problem with the tell tale, not with overheating. Check operating temp at the top of the head (160F is overheating, or too hot to touch). Run a piece of weedwhacker line way up the tell tale to clear clogging.

    Oil leak

That would be correct (50:1). Running rich can also mean that the fuel/air mix is too rich (too much fuel). Not sure what model you have, but look for a slow speed needle valve on the side of the carb. Adjust that clockwise until the engine gives you a light backfire (lean sneeze), then set...

4.5 hp evinrude smoky and oil residue in test tank

"mix" can refer to oil/gas ratio or to air/fuel mix. Both can give you those symptoms in a test tank. Have you run that motor out on the lake to clean it out a bit?

1999 50hp Johnson only starts at full throttle

Can't confirm offhand that is the right plug, but use a .030 gap (not to be confused with testing gap discussed above). Fellow lister Vic is one of the plug gurus, and may chime in.

Johnson 150 V6 Ocean Runner - not starting

Test for spark with a device meant for that -- buy an adjustable open air tester and set it for 3/8. You are testing the strength of the ignition system. Make sure connections (battery) are sandpaper clean and shiny, and the battery is fully charged.

1999 50hp Johnson only starts at full throttle

That is, the throttle plate should turn when twisting the tiller handle. Carb should open as well without manually operating the roller.

If still using them, snug up wing nuts with a pliers, not by hand. You may need to replace the rectifier.

    Evinrude 120hp VRO Clicking Sound

guess it's possible the wrong plugs were installed (reach is too long, hitting piston heads.) Pull plugs and look in with a flashlight for piston damage.

1999 50hp Johnson only starts at full throttle

Are you advancing the timing plate while throttling up, or just operating the carb?

Evinrude 1973 boat motor runs while out of the water but not in the water.

Do a compression test on all four -- can usually borrow or rent a tester at an auto parts store. Post results. Did you get temps when it was running? (top of heads -- IR tester best choice.) Prepare for the worst (e.g. dead cylinder), then decide what to do.

    hard start. spark plugs? mixture?

Your oil mix is correct according to current recommendations (50:1). Your air/fuel mixture might be incorrect -- idle mixture needle on top of the carb. Close it clockwise until gently seated, then open 1 1/2 turns and start. If it starts, adjust clockwise until the engine lean misses or...
