    boat bottom

A little, yes. The last little bit won't be picked up by any pump I'm aware of, and unless you soak it up with a sponge or something, it's just going to sit there. If it's accumulating for no reason after being pumped as well as possible, THEN you have a leak.

Does EFI solve the hard start/cranking issue?

Retired here too. I think I just love torturing myself with these. Not really in it for the money, but the extra "mad" money provided never hurt anyone to my knowledge. The motors I get have usually been labeled "too expensive to fix", often by "master" mechanics too busy to mess with them. I...

Does EFI solve the hard start/cranking issue?

Me too, but from a DIY standpoint, you haven't experienced anything until you've experienced a fuel injected 4 stroke that's behaving badly. I'm the guy that enjoys "project" Honda's, for the challenge - the guy that gets the motors when they "just won't run right". Same motor with carbs WAY...

    Pontoon boat Engine too low?

Judging by it's appearance in that pic, and what you are saying, the motor is certainly not too low. It's more likely not deep enough. If it's not already, a cupped prop MIGHT help.

    Pontoon boat Engine too low?

Struggling with the semantics here. Are you saying it'll do 24 mph with the motor tucked in all the way? So it's sort of lifting the back of the boat up under power? What are you using for reference when you say "level"? Would the prop shaft be parallel with the pontoons, or something else...

    Pontoon boat Engine too low?

?? He can get 24mph out of it.

Stable Fishing Boat for a Big Man

My ONLY tiff with the pontoons comes up when you need to cover some ground on a regular basis and you don't want to invest in a tri-toon with big power.....

    Bowriders that handle waves well?

Rough water handling is not just about the boat's interior layout. Actually, it has nothing to do with layout. It's about hull design. You've heard the term where the rubber hits the road? This is about where the hull hits the water!! Then, there's this concept regarding compromise. There isn't...

Ran outdrive without lube! Bad sound.

Back in ancient history this recent high school grad landed a job at a Chevrolet garage - starting on the lube rack. I didn't have too much trouble remembering to put the drain plug back in. What generated WAY more messes for me was when the oil filter gasket didn't seal - usually because the...

Ran outdrive without lube! Bad sound.

I bought a 90hp Honda that was supposedly locked up. Turned out the motor was fine, but the lower unit was locked up. Nothing but water in it. That was one time where springing for the price of a used lower didn't bother me one bit!

Does this gear and clutch dog look ok?

Yup, I get that. I'm suggesting that only due to the potential it MAY BE possible.

Does this gear and clutch dog look ok?

Having more time than money, and willing to pull it back down if it didn't work out OK, I'd be tempted to give them a try. And if the clutch dog were reversible, I'd do that too. If I were working on a customers boat, I'd have to change them.

    Boathouse Length vs Boat Length

In the southern states, it has nothing to do with the rain. It's about the sun.....

    Boathouse Length vs Boat Length

It SOUNDS like several feet of boat might be hanging off the back of your "platform". A lot of unsupported overhang like that is usually not good. You may be able to install additional structure on that platform that would get the job done properly. Without seeing more specifics, it's hard to...

    Boathouse Length vs Boat Length

I think the answer here is going to be how the boat is supported when out of the water? Slings, a conventional boat lift under cover, what?

    2015 115 Merc on 20' pontoon

2 things. First, IMHO, you don't need to turn a 4 stroke at max rpms for max speed. The prop that allows for max rpm might have a better hole shot/get out of the water quicker, but there's no guarantee it going to go faster than the next size bigger prop. I don't care for how busy a 4 stroke...

    50Hp Honda

Another thought maybe. Are you trying to shift from forward to reverse while the engine is not running? If so, bad plan. The mechanism in the lower unit is designed in a manner where the motor MUST be running to shift properly.

    50Hp Honda

Regarding a 2018, I would be surprised if this were a lubrication issue. Stiff is one thing, but binding is USUALLY something that's not adjusted properly. Is this an install that's been working OK, with new cables and control, and motor installed in 2018, a 2018 motor that's been installed...
