    Honda BF20 gear selection issue

As mentioned you may have to turn the prop a little to allow the clutch dogs to engage. That's tyical of most outboards. Sounds like you are good to go....

    Trailer Tires

That's always my first question. To confirm, I put my hand on the tire and wheel hub every time we stop for fuel and potty breaks. Hot is not good, requires immediate attention. 50+ years towing, never a blown tire.

Mercruiser 140 Points to Delco EST results in low RPM at WOT

I haven't worked on a 140 for 45 years or so, so disregard if this no longer applies. Back then we had issues setting the dwell consistently on occasion, due to the fact the rotor shaft was riding in badly worn bushings, that required a new housing to repair. .030 slop in rotor shaft not too...

    Honda BF20 gear selection issue

The first thing I would do is to disconnect the shift cable. That will eliminate any potential issues with the cable adjustments, stiff cables, and controller issues. Next, I would move the lower shift rod through it's reverse, neutral, and forward positions to confirm the guts are all OK...

    75 HP Honda running horribly

2 thoughts here- Blowing back towards the tank very likely destroyed the check valves built into the primer bulb that allow it to do what it does (prime). If the primer bulb "stays collapsed", generally that's a sign there's a restriction somewhere between the bulb and the fuel pick up in the...

    Rug glue question

I converted to vinyl a while back, so I don't remember using anything with rubber backing. I know I don't like carpet any more, but even if that were not an issue, anything with rubber backing doesn't sound very appealing. I would add that while you have the deck stripped, I believe it's a...

    marine plywood.

My first thought was WOW, that's expensive! Second thought, is I have no idea what marine ply is going for right now. I've never paid over 100 bucks a sheet for it. Most recent purchase was through Home Depot (2 years ago), and they had it in stock. I think maybe in our area (lakes/pontoon boats...

    2007 90 2 stroke

Keith, my curiosity is killing me regarding "no head gasket". Do you have the model number handy?

Blown head gasket might act like that.

    $2500 boat

Could be, in today's market, if these prices hold. Just keep in mind we're talking about a 20 year old boat....

    $2500 boat

3 year crate engine warranty in a boat? Unless you plan on keeping this boat a LOOONG time, the money for this motor is going to be very hard to justify. Consider that few will be willing to give you an extra dime when it comes to resale value. Because you've installed a new/reman engine makes...

    $2500 boat

I took a high mileage van in to them for a motor rebuild. Changing motors is a PIA in them or I would have done it. Pretty sure all they did was wash it and give it back to me. Nothing but trouble from there, some their fault, some new issues. I lost patience and ended up selling it to get rid...

    $2500 boat

If this is the Michigan Motors in the Waterford area I would be REAL careful dealing with them.

What would you pay for a parts motor

A lot of guys would be willing to pay top dollar for a "parts" motor that has electric start too....

What would you pay for a parts motor

That answer is going to be all over the ball park. For instance, a locked up motor that's covered in corrosion isn't going to be worth nearly what a clean motor that hasn't been run in a while is worth.....

    Water issues

Honest question. In your experience, assuming you were a rookie without a friend in this dealership, do you believe they would enter in a conversation on this topic? Or would you be far more likely to hear "bring it in and we'll pull it down for you".

    Water issues

When working on a 4 stroke, this is such a dumb idea it barely rises to the level of getting a response. A REALLY bad plan. We've covered the "why" this is dumb before.

    Water issues

Water coming from lower is likely coming from drains. I wouldn't worry about those too much. You need to identify where the motor is getting that water. Head gasket is generally a safe bet, but in any case, that's where I would start.

    Water issues

When you found "water in your oil" was this oil grey? If so, there's a pretty good chance this is way beyond a little condensate build up. Does the engine seem to be warming up correctly? Does it have a thermostat installed? Is this a salt water motor?

    Trust the dealer?

Do NOT trust the dealer unless it's in writing and signed by an owner or manager.
