Regarding a 2018, I would be surprised if this were a lubrication issue. Stiff is one thing, but binding is USUALLY something that's not adjusted properly.
Is this an install that's been working OK, with new cables and control, and motor installed in 2018, a 2018 motor that's been installed recently using existing controls and cables, or something that's happened over time?
If the throttle and shift cables were disconnected from the motor, then checked for this binding, you would know beyond any reasonable doubt if this was a cable issue.
