Running boat on land with no prop?

I don't get all the arguments. My thought is why take the chance? It is way more catastrophic when these engines overheat than it is for our land vehicle engines and it can happen real quick, in a matter of seconds. So, again, why take the chance? Why is the OP so against using muffs...

Running boat on land with no prop?

I'm no expert by far, but it would seem that real world conditions, aka boat in water, should trump simulated (on land) conditions. Why don't you just put the boat in the water to see if it's operating properly while under a true real world load? I don't mean to be derogatory, just wondering.

    Potential project boat

If you are expecting to run this boat, I would first check the integrity of whatever the motor mounts are screwed into. If the wood is badly rotted, I can only imagine what the torque of a running engine would do.

    Potential project boat

When I bought my 18 foot bow rider it was 10 years old. I paid just under $10,000 for boat and trailer. I was very lucky in that I got a very well taken care of rig. 9 seasons later it's still a great boat because I take care of it. It lives in my garage during the off season, but it's in my...

    Potential project boat

Don't overlook the trailer either. While it might not cost as much to restore or make road worthy, it still needs consideration. Considering the weight of the boat, it is likely required to have working brakes. The frame, suspension, tongue, winch, tires and lights need to be up to par too.

    Potential project boat

Those interior pictures don't look good. I would save up more money and buy a better boat. They are out there. Find one that was better taken care of.

    End of Season Maintenance

I don't use my boat (4.3L Mercruiser) very hard, in fact I'm pretty gentle with it. I'm guessing I don't use it as much as most either. When I change the drive lube every Fall, it is pretty black compared to the new lube. So, I think I'll continue changing it each time I winterize.

    End of Season Maintenance

If your drive lube had any water intrusion you could be looking at freeze damage come Springtime. It's not worth the chance. It's not that expensive or much work to change the drive lube.

Boat turns over but will not start

Yeah, it was actually a good learning experience. It would crank, hiccup and seem to almost start.

Boat turns over but will not start

I have a couple of dumb questions. Did you check to see if gas is squirting into the carb? How about the dead man lanyard switch? Mine got accidentally switched off once and it cranked and hicupped, but wouldn't start.

Need a New battery ,got more for less at Wallyworld....I think

And I remember experimenting in school with electroplating too. I guess we were lucky back in grade school having great science classes and various shop classes. Auto mechanics, auto body, wood shop, metal shop, etc. And that was regular public schools, not even a trade school. Fun times.

Need a New battery ,got more for less at Wallyworld....I think

Better than those new fangled solar panels! At least you can eat them if need be. I wouldn't want to eat a solar panel!

Need a New battery ,got more for less at Wallyworld....I think

Ha! No smell. No explosions! No I'll effects that I know of ;) And I have 5 batteries on maintainers. They are NOCO .75 amp maintainers, so they only put out 3/4 of an amp. They are basically high tech smart trickle chargers.

Need a New battery ,got more for less at Wallyworld....I think

I've had very good luck with Napa batteries in several applications. I bought my boat used in 2013. It came with two batteries and one of them is still in there and working fine. It's a genuine Mercury Marine starting battery. I don't know who makes these batteries for Mercury, but I've been...

Need a New battery ,got more for less at Wallyworld....I think

Ha! That reminds me of a science project I did way back in elementary school! I think lemons or oranges might work better though!

No power to new Kenwood stereo reciever

I added a switch, but I have both the red and yellow controlled by the switch. I don't care about clock or preset memory. A couple years ago that yellow memory wire was draining my battery. When I disconnected it, I no longer had a battery drain problem. I know some people have said...

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

No mold/mildew. I do this during the boating season when the boat is stored in my driveway. We use the boat on an average of once a week. For winter storage, I do the same, but it's in my garage. Both covers are waterproofed every other year. The mooring covers are the normal sunbrella...

95 Mercruiser 4.3 water in oil

I double cover my boat. The factory bow and cockpit covers with their 3 poles, plus a full trailerable aftermarket cover. The factory covers help support the top cover to prevent pooling. My boat is always dry.

Sharing fresh water intake from one engine to a second engine

I get that. Keeping your mind active, questioning how things operate, etc. is better than just sitting around oblivious to everything around you. A lot of the times you need hands on to gain knowledge. I think I've learned more in life by tinkering with things rather than reading about them...
