Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

It looks to me like that is a vent for the gimbal housing. That hole on my transom plate is completely dry. It’s below the wiring pass through for the trim/ tilt senders. At this point you have to remove the outdrive from the boat to investigate further. You have it isolated to the gimbal...

    Draining Mystery Water

Boats with stern drives can be a pain to pin point it, but you’re right about boats with outboards. It’s pretty straight forward.

Welcome to iBoats. This cat hasn’t been around in 10 years, and the Post is 11 years old. You need to start your own thread. Chuck

    Draining Mystery Water

The transom is a wood core encapsulated in fiberglass. The bolts that go through the transom can and will leak over time causing the wood to rot. Especially the lower outboard mounting bolts since they are below the water line at times.

    Draining Mystery Water

I agree go for the most obvious places first. Look for pin holes or cracks in the hull, pull the drain fitting out and reseal, look at the lower through bolts for the outboard. There’s not a lot of places on that boat for a leak.

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

It’s good to see two strokes coming back through Rotax. The new motors are not like their smoky cousins of the past. The snowmobile crowd hates the 4 strokes unless they are turbo charged. Then there’s the 2 stroke turbo charged mountain sleds that are just crazy on power. Variable exhaust...

New transom installed but outside of transom is not flat

Yes it was. My transom was much more out of spec. I had to sand down my gel to rough it up. I mixed a faring compound using polyester resin, cabosil, and phonelic micro balloons with surfacing wax. Once I fared the area out, I applied more gel coat and sanded out. I most likely bowed mine in...

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

As a snowmobile enthusiast I can say the Rotax engines are awesome in Skidoo machines. The DI 2 strokes are really impressive and reliable. Not as good as Polaris, but I may be slightly biased. 🤔 I do wonder about the longevity of a “waterproof” cowl. How many seasons will it stay that way?

    Roller To Bunk Conversion

80 rollers doesn’t sound like a wobble roller setup. My 20’ Chaparral has 32 rollers on an EZ Loader trailer. My feet stay dry, lol.

New transom installed but outside of transom is not flat

The Mercruiser install manual wants no more than 1/16” variance around the keyhole on the outside. Mine was fairly significant, yours is close. Roughing up the area a little and faring with some gelcoat would most likely bring you into spec. If you choose to use a faring compound you’ll want to...

Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

Sure, you can run it on muffs. It would eliminate the water pump hose and exhaust, though from the video, the water was leaking and motor was off. Start narrowing it down. I had to put my boat in the water and follow the leak. Chances are you won’t find anything with the bore scope while it’s...

    Engine hatch cracked

You’ll need to stabilize that crack or it’ll crack again. Grind down to good glass and make sure the structural wood or base is in tact and not rotten or otherwise compromised. It looks to me from the pics that you’ll have to grind back a good bit to get rid of the cracks and see what’s going on...

Rehab SportCraft 222 1983 deep V hull cuddy walkaround

I had just visited my Grandfather in NE Philly off Roosevelt, and Uncle in Bensalem. Can’t say I enjoy those areas a lot now. I don’t go there too often, but force myself to make a trip every now and then. My grandfather still has his place in south Jersey but hasn’t had a boat in a very long...

1985 Bayliner 2750 Ciera Sunbridge Resto

Yeah, a half ton truck may be a little light. That boat is gonna be really heavy. Hopefully it’s mostly flat where you need to tow her. I hope you keep posting, I really like seeing the resto’s on these cabin cruiser boats. I would love to take on that challenge if I ever get to a point I’m...

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

Just looking at your picture, it appears there is no pipe to allow water to drain out of the ski locker, but maybe I can’t see it. At the lowest point of the keel there should be passages to allow accumulated water to travel to the bilge. I used CPVC pipe PB’d through all the cross members.

Any tips to keeping your boat clean with engine work?

Yep, all those above. Old sheets, cardboard, cheap HF tarps…..whatever it takes to protect.
