Port side engine hatch as you can see in the pics is cracked. This side is the only walk thru from the transom into the boat. Looking for fiberglass repair suggestions. Never really have done any fiber glass repair myself.
Can I just clean up that area and re-glass it? Will that give back the support?
Thank you

You’ll need to stabilize that crack or it’ll crack again. Grind down to good glass and make sure the structural wood or base is in tact and not rotten or otherwise compromised. It looks to me from the pics that you’ll have to grind back a good bit to get rid of the cracks and see what’s going on underneath.

Is the top side gelcoat? Do not grind. Take a router and router all theloose stuff away away. If you take out wood, glass some in. Glass over the whole thing. I'd router outer about 3 inches out and around the repair. Make sure no air bubbles are in the glass by dabbing bristles down with a 2inch paint brush. Mark and drill hole after it cures.

Oh I forgot to mention if the other side is cracked and it's gelcoat, find the ends of ALL the cracks if it's "spider webbed" and use a drill bit or a small router bit and at the end of the crack drill down tonthe fiberglass. That stops the crack. Then router out the crack. Edges to almost a 45° bevel sand the rough edges so it's rounded with 220 paper. 400 The entire area2 inches out farther then the edge of any crack. 3 pieces of tape thick all the way around. Get paste and blade it in smooth. Remove tape when cured. Wipe with acetone. Buff HARD ! Get the gel warm. Then let cool and sand and buff.
