    Leaving (Off Topic)

I left here once back on March 13 of 2018 due to a medical problem that I found later could be corrected (and was) so I came back. However, although I feel like I'm somewhere between 38 & 43 years of age, I'm well aware that I'm 2 years & 9 months short of being 90, and as such, retiring in...

    1998 Evinrude 90hp E90ELECM

Not sure which carburetors are on that model... 4 single throat plastic ones... or... 2 dual throat aluminum ones. If plastic, one high speed jet to a carburetor, horizontal in the bottom center portion of the float chamber, way behind the drain screw plug. If aluminum, two high speed jets to...

Can not pull the pull starter cord with spark plugs in?

As "bwkre" mentions..... Adjust the length of starter cord until the manual starter pulley resembles what you see here.

1985 140 Looper 3 wire power trim issue

I saw the model number (1985), however due to the electrical conflict, this question needs to be asked... is that engine a crossflow engine (2 metal carburetors)... or... a loop charged engine (4 plastic carburetors) ? Stop playing around with that complex relay system. That relay setup came...

I’m all out of ideas I’ve come to you for help

I won't advise you as what to do with the timer base... However, from what I understand, you need the items to anchor that timer base down properly which is: The "Retainer Ring" - Item 15, Part #313666 - Quantity 1 The "Clamp" Item" - - Item 14, Part #331927 - Quantity 2 The "Clamp Screws"...

I’m all out of ideas I’ve come to you for help

Your "mechanic" is a poor excuse for a "parts replacer" and Red Foreman would have a field day with him! If it were me, I'd have that guy drug into Small Claims court! At the present time, you've spun that flywheel twice, shearing the flywheel key. The tapers of the flywheel and also the...

    torque pressure for a evinrude 25hp 1977

You must use the factory specified flywheel key, part number #307480... no other key is permissible. DO NOT use a hardware store key! The key must be torqued to 40-45 foot pounds..... The key must be installed so that it is absolutely vertical with the engine, NOT aligned with the crankshaft taper.

1972 Johnson 65 HP 65ESL72S timing issue or?

Strong Coffee..... Do Not speak in generalities such as "Good Spark" or compression is "Great" or right around a certain figure, that sort of thing means nothing to us. We need info that is specific such as "racerone" speaks of above. If you need to have the idle so high that the engine SLAMS...

    For The Moderator

Every day I find it necessary to sign in again whereas in the past my sign in stayed put until I logged out for some reason. I've sent two messages to iBoats via their "contact" route but nobody has bothered to answer... so now I'm counting on you to relay the message for me. On every forum...

    Need a little help

I did a little work on the ID Plate.... The CE just before the "R" indicates: C=8... E=9.... 1989 The R is a factory run number of no consequence.

1972 johnson 25 extremely difficult to pull start

Switch to Champion J6C plugs, gap set to .030. If the timing was off (sheared flywheel key)... the engine wouldn't run at all. Cold engine start procedure: Pump fuel primer bulb up hard... Pull out choke to full on... Turn throttle handle to someplace above idle to open throttle butterfly...

    Throttle linkage adjustment

Soooo... Ya'really screwed it up did'ya? :) Make sure that the measurement of the threaded cam rod is exactly as the graphic below. Now.... Temporarily back the throttle roller away from the cam so that it has no effect on the carburetors. With the carburetor face plate removed so you can...

    Wiring

Accessory?? The key should have three positions... OFF... ON... START. If by accessory, you mean the ON position, and that setting engages the starter, that indicates you have the starter solenoid wire (usually Yellow/Red) on that engine connected to the "A" (accessory) terminal (wrong) and it...

my Johnson 90 idling RPM? on hose and in water??

Assuming the compression is approximately 100 psi and fairly even on all cylinders... and with all the spark plus removed, the spark will jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP! (Check it)........... Let me know what the compression is on all cylinders, and if...

I'll try to keep track of you on the board. The message setup of iBoat's is a little hectic to navigate.

my Johnson 90 idling RPM? on hose and in water??

Bucket?? Better be a hellava big one! Idle rpm on a flushette................. Long shaft (20") 1000 rpm X Long shaft (25") 1200 rpm The idle in the water will drop to normal. If your engine won't idle at those settings (whichever)... you have a engine problem.
